Principal's Message for April 7, 2016
(If you are having difficulty opening links on this E-blast, please click on the message, “Is this email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser,” which is located at the top of this Eblast.)
Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
This weekend, I was fortunate to be part of a group of RSD6 educators who attended the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) 2016 national conference. Along with Mrs. Jean Leonard and thousands of other teachers and administrators from across the country and the globe, we each received professional development from highly-respected professionals representing a myriad of topics within the fields of education, research and cognition. With the belief that the ultimate purpose of educational professional development is to improve student learning, I am now in the process of sifting this new knowledge through the vision and goals of our district, and reflecting upon how best to weave these lessons into our practices at James Morris School so that all students benefit.
6th Graders to select Middle School Electives
On behalf of our colleagues at the middle school, we ask that parents of JMS 6th-graders have a discussion with their child(ren) about taking a foreign language. The complete Program of Studies for 7th and 8th grade students can be found on Wamogo's website here. There will be a parent night at Wamogo in May where the middle school team can answer questions and address concerns about 7th grade. More details about this event to follow.
JMS Art Show at Morris Senior Center
JMS students are creating Mexican-themed artwork for exhibit Mexicana Arte Primaveral, a student art show that will be held at the Morris Senior Center for the month of April. Kindergarten students have been painting and decorating sombreros. Second grade students are painting decorative Dala horses. Sixth grade students are generating Mexican Bark Paintings. Other works include self-portraits in the style of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, Tin Art, and Alibrejes Drawings.
How can you help?
Volunteer to hang the show with Mrs. Sweet: Thursday, March 31, 3:00-4:30 pm

Please email Mrs. Sweet at lsweet@rsd6.org if you are interested in helping in any way.
Thank you so much!
Mrs. Laurie Sweet
