Newsletter Week 1 Term 2
Shelly Park School - Wednesday 4th of May 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Whānau
I trust that you all had a good term break with your children. It has been really encouraging to see that, apart from a few illnesses and a couple of students isolating, nearly all students are back at school for the start of Term 2.
I would like to give you a quick update on the school hall. The builders continued their work over the Term 1 break, and have made some great progress. The new roof has been installed, new cladding is up, joinery is in place and the new toilets and bathrooms have almost been completed. The planned hand over day is June 17. However, I have my fingers crossed that we may be able to get in there a little earlier than that.
We are also in the process of applying for funding grants so we can design and build a new junior playground. The plan is to replace the current wooden playground once we know how much funding we will have to play with. The PTA are also on board with this plan and will be helping to turn this into reality.
At the end of Term 1 we practiced a Fire Drill. We do this each term to ensure that all students and teachers are prepared if an emergency were to happen. This term, we will be practicing our Lockdown Drill. More information on this will come out later in the term.
We still have a number of pool keys outstanding. If you still have one of these at home please drop this into the school office and you will receive your $10 refund.
Finally, The Pod 1 teachers and students would like to extend a huge thank you to Kelly Miller, and Claudius Ah-loe of Intercede Corporate Services. Claudius donated all the ingredients for Easter cupcakes and Kelly very kindly came in and decorated them with all the Pod 1 children. It was a lovely Easter and end-of-term treat and we really appreciate it.

Yummy Stickers
Shelly Park has again registered to collect the Yummy Apple stickers. These stickers are converted into a winning share of the $200,000 sports prize pool from DG Sport. All you have to do is purchase ‘Yummy’ branded apples, save the stickers or cut out labels, place them on a sticker collection sheet and return them to your classroom teacher. The apples
can be purchased from New World, Pak n Save and participating Four Square stores.
The Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion officially runs for Terms 2 and 3, however if you have been collecting since last year, these stickers still count too. If you need more Sticker Collection Sheets or Cut out label collection sheets they will be available at the Office or with your classroom teacher. Please return all completed Collection sheets to your classroom
teacher or hold onto these sheets until the end of Term 3 for collection - we will let you know!
Entertainment Book
Thank you to those who have recently purchased an entertainment book. The PTA truly does appreciate the extra funds that the school gains from each purchase. All memberships last 12 months from the date of purchase.
Every membership sold gives 20% back to our school! Please support our school with this fundraiser, and share this link with family, friends and work colleagues. Use this link to find out more! https://nz.entdigital.net/orderbooks/954z61
