PTO Meeting - March 16

Join the PTO and our guest speaker Aaron Yamamoto, K-12 Math Supervisor, at the PTO Meeting on March 16th at 9:30 a.m.

Big Ideas: Math Video Library

The LAF Math Team is excited to share that your child now has easy access to the Big Ideas video library for each topic/lesson. A document with the video links will be posted in your child's Google Classroom at the beginning of each topic. Please feel free to use these videos to support homework, review for a test as well as pre-teach concepts.

ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK

Thank you to everyone at home who is supporting the Read a Fun program and supporting reading at home. We are meeting our reading goals with no problem this year due to your support. We are also doing our part in school to increase our reading by hosting "Drop Everything And Read".

Twice a week during the month of March, we are all pausing to read for 15 minutes. Students and staff say it has been a positive part of their day and we are all earning minutes at the same time. Increasing eyes on print is one of the leading indicators of success!!

Also, this week we introduced a new LAF Challenge. Can our students solve complicated puzzles and brainteasers like Jake McQuade? Students can choose to participate and submit their completed puzzles to a box in the lobby. A number of puzzles will be pulled, checked for accuracy, and the winners will be awarded prizes.

There is still time to join in the fun as we quickly get ready for Author's Day on March 29th. If you have not started the book, start now. It is a quick and entertaining read.

Thank you, again, to the PTO for supporting our One Book and Author's Day Program.

4th Grade Broadcasting Club Registration

This registration is for 4th grade students only. If there is an overwhelming response, a lottery will be held to determine participants. Registration for the 4th Grade Broadcast Club will close 3/17.

Before signing up, here are a few things to think about:
~ Students must attend an in-person training on March 21 or March 23. It will be at 8:00 a.m. in the LMC
~ Students must be able to work independently with the WeVideo editing program.
~ Students must be committed to completing the task by their assigned date

Please contact Mrs. Cifrodella (jcifrodella@chatham-nj) or Mrs. Magno (jmagno@chatham-nj.org) with questions.

LAF Read-a-Thon

This year, we are donating a portion of the funds raised to support those affected by the earthquake in Turkey through an organization called Kizilay. Kizilay is Turkey's Red Cross and this was suggested to us by Selda Agar, LAF paraprofessional, after our 4th graders showed interest in supporting Turkey.

Please take some time to watch the video that is linked below for more information about Kizilay as well as how to participate in the Read A Thon.

Please make sure to log into the Read A Fun program to support their reading. It is really about the reading:

Ask your child for their log in information. Once you input your information (email or phone number) you will have to authorize your information. This ensures that your information and your child's information are protected. See below for our weekly reading goals and weekly school-wide prizes.

Lost & Found (Last Call)

All of our lost and found items are still in the LAF lobby. Stop by between 8:00 and 4:00 p.m. if you want to go through the items. We will hold all the items until Monday, March 13th and then they will be donated.

5th - 6th Grade Health Information

As you may already know NJ State requires 2 immunizations for 6th Grade. One is the Tdap booster and the 2nd is the meningitis vaccine. The Tdap vaccine is required upon entrance into 6th grade while the meningitis vaccine is required at age 11. If your student has received these vaccines already please feel free to send in the paperwork to me at LAF so you will be ready for the start of school in September. If you prefer to fax the updated immunization record the fax number here is (973)457-2493. As always please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Warm Regards,
