A Note from Nurse Ashley
FLU INFORMATION FROM NURSE ASHLEY:
We are seeing very high rates of Flu across our nation and state. Currently, we are also seeing an increase in the reported and confirmed cases in Norman as well. I am attaching information about the flu and what we all can do to help lessen the chances that you or your families will get it. However, even following every precaution is no guarantee that you or your child will not contract the virus. Please remember, if you believe your child might have the Flu or if your child has a fever--KEEP THEM HOME. Flu is usually a sudden onset and will almost always have a fever. It is highly recommended that you take your child to a doctor right away if they develop symptoms because treatment is most effective if started in the first 24 to 48 hours. Encourage fluids regularly and keep them as comfortable as possible. Your doctor may recommend fever-reducing medications to help your child with the aches, pains, and chills that come with fevers. Please be specific when you call in your child’s absence to the school. State if you think your child has the flu, has been diagnosed by a doctor with the flu, or has other illness such as a stomach bug. (Flu does not usually have stomach symptoms.) NPS is monitoring the Flu situation on a daily basis and it is important that we know how many students we have out with Flu or Flu symptoms. You must keep your child home until they have been without fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Advil, Tylenol or any other similar medication. It is highly recommended that everyone get Flu shots, as they will lessen the severity of the symptoms and the length of the illness even if you get the virus. Also frequent and thorough hand washing is very beneficial! Thank you all for your help and cooperation in keeping our kids as safe and healthy as possible!
