Exhibition
Virtual in 2020
Dear 5th Grade Families,
We hope you and your family are doing well and staying healthy. We are excited to announce we will have a virtual Exhibition on May 18th. Although all students will have a mentor to help support their work, your involvement will help make this experience a positive one for all.
Some things for you to know about the process:
Students will “meet” with their mentor 4 times prior to the 18th. Every Monday, students will be sent a Flipgrid to reflect and respond via student email. Flipgrid is not a live chat, Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.
During these meetings/discussions students can share what’s going well, what challenges they are having, or how the mentor can best support them for where they are in the process.
Mentors will also collaborate with students via their planning documents created in Google Docs that were already shared with mentors prior to break. (Planning Calendar)
May 11th, teachers will create an assignment in their Google Classroom for students to post their exhibition presentation. Teachers will then post these to a 5th grade website to share with the learning community.
What about Action?
In the past taking action has been a significant piece of the exhibition process. We understand that students may not be able to physically take action like they may have originally wanted to. While there are creative ways students may take actions digitally, students will be allowed to create a “plan of action” to take once they are able to.
What about their Creative Piece?
Prior to spring break our 5th grade students were able to work with special area teachers to explore creative ways people take action. (Ex: Artists using their work to inspire changes) Students have the following website they can use as a resource to help brainstorm ideas. Be creative with the resources you have at hand.
