Friday Focus
Did you know it's National School Counseling week?
We are a Lucky Building, We Have Moore...
The job of a school counselor is unique. Unless you have followed Mrs. Moore around for a time, you really don't know what she does. The list is endless, but I am going to attempt to shed some light on things. She helps to greet student at the door every morning. This is not an easy job in the winter! If we get a new student, Mrs. Moore works to make sure we have the paperwork, gives tours, answers questions, and gives them supplies. Don't forget about scheduling them in all of their courses too. Mrs. Moore lends an ear to students or is a shoulder to cry on if that is what they need. She is versed in the discipline policy and keeps the historical records for the school! I say that party as a joke, but really Mrs. Moore knows the last ~20 years of MMS history.
Did we mention that she helps to dispense meds, does lunch duty, covers classes, is our resident expert on suicide protocol, and works with DSS, DCI, and countless other agencies that help provide our students support.
Simply put, the Mitchell Middle School is grateful to have such an active and involved person as our School Counselor. Thank you for all that you do, Mrs. Moore. Our students should feel lucky to have you to talk to.
Note- The above list is by no means an exhaustive list. We neglected to mention shoveling the sidewalks, handling preserved pig lungs (Still want to know how you got that pig to smoke!), directing traffic, and so much more!
Friday Math
Mrs. Steckel's math class takes time every Friday to decipher some complex math problems. They were engaged in this one and discussing who was going to win on Sunday! Side note, did anyone notice that more students were talking about the Sponge Bob appearance than were talking about the football game!
A calming exercise...
One of the students wanted to challenge the others, so he made a math problem of his own. I took a shot at it, but didn't get the correct answer. What about you?
Prepping the next group
Our 8th graders got the first taste of life across town at MHS. Mrs. Mills came over to give presentations about the opportunities and explain the registration requirements as a freshmen. They left a little nervous, but ready to register for the next adventure!
Soaking up some sun...
Mrs.Berg's 6th grade students use the outer set of doors as a sketching box. While doing this, one of them commented how hot the sun was today. At the time of the comment, it was about 8 degrees! Perspective I guess.
Can you have enough books?
The ELA department works to set up this week's book fair. It has been successful and attended by a number of parents and kids before and after school. Moving parent teacher conferences will put a damper on it though, encourage your kids to check it out today or go online and look at all the options!
Some inspiration from Todd
It's been a few years since we had Todd Whitaker here in Mitchell. The PD Day was chalked full of excellent advice, and I still refer back to a number of points he made in conversation or reflection. Even Frida Focus was a Todd Whitaker idea! Thanks, Todd!
This is a neat idea
Mrs. Klumb's 8th grade students were focusing on an activity about being unique. They decided to share what makes them unique. Click on this photo and prepare of one of those hilarious and inspiring educational moments.
