Hello from Mrs. Knoeppel

Hello Lincoln Families! Miss Pape and I just want to share that we greatly appreciate how parents, students and staff continue to work together these past weeks. We know it has not been easy, but if we all work together, we can do this! We are so very proud of our Lincoln community, especially our students. Please continue to contact your child's teacher, and/or our office staff and administration so we can support you and your children.

This update was shared by Dr. Heinz regarding CCSD15's rolling re-entry plan:

New restrictive guidance issued from the Illinois Department of Public Health, paired with several positive COVID-19 cases among our own staff following new teacher orientation one week ago, have unfortunately made it clear that we must delay our re-entry to in-person instruction at this time.

Specifically, our starting date for rolling re-entry will be delayed until Monday, September 21 and be implemented on a modified schedule.

Monday, September 21: Kindergarten and K-8 self-contained special education programs

  • CLA: ACES, Multiple Needs (MN), Early Childhood SIP: Half-day only (9:00-11:30 a.m.); transition to a full- or extended-day starting on Tuesday, October 13

Monday, September 28: Grades 1-2 and self-contained early childhood

Monday, October 5: Grades 3-4

Tuesday, October 13: Grades 5-8 and ECDEC/blended early childhood (junior high in hybrid model)

** We look forward to welcoming all of our in-person bilingual self-contained students back to our classrooms at the same time their grade level peers are scheduled to return.

Parent Orientation

Thank you for attending Lincoln's Virtual Parent Orientation. If you have additional questions, please reach out to your classroom teacher. November conference scheduling will be arranged by your child's classroom teacher. Your classroom teacher will be reaching out to you about signing up for a 20 minute conference time sometime in September. Conferences are on November 23 and November 24.

An Update from the Health Office

Health, Immunization, and Eye Exams:

For the purpose of safeguarding the health of children, CCSD15 enforces Illinois student health requirements. These requirements consist of health, dental and eye exams and immunizations specific to grade and age. Health exams are required for students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, Sixth grade, and those who are new to the school. Click here for required health forms: Required Health Exams and Immunization Recording. ** All health forms are due by October 15, 2020 **

(According to Board of Education Policy 7:100, Health, Eye and Dental Examinations, Immunizations, and Exclusion of Students and Illinois School Code, students who do not provide proof of receiving the required immunization and/or exam are excluded from school on October 15. Students new to Illinois schools, who register midterm, are allowed 30 days following registration to comply with the health requirements.

Upcoming MAP Assessments

Each year District 15 students in grades 2 through 8 take an achievement test called the MAP test. The MAP test measures a student’s reading and math levels, is taken by the student with a Chromebook, and takes between 20 to 40 minutes to complete.

This year, all students in grades 2 to 8 will take the MAP test during the distance learning portion of the school year. Teachers will be in contact with students to explain and walk them through the virtual MAP test taking process. Schools will scheudle a MAP test “dry run” in early September. Students will take the actual MAP test between September 1 and October 1. Your school will provide specific test dates and times to you prior to testing.

Linked below is our parent and student “cheat sheets. You will be provided with another copy closer to MAP testing. Parent/Caregiver Cheat Sheet, Student Cheat Sheet.

If Clever Badge (K-3) does not work, login with user name then and next the password. Go to the bottom of this linked document and follow the directions for grades 4-8. Here are the directions for logging in. Tech support is available at Lincoln for students and parents on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday. Please call first before visiting Lincoln for tech assistance.

As we embark on the virtual side of technology, we are all troubleshooting through issues as they arise. Here are some helpful tips that might be able to solve your issue. Please also know that if your child's screen is slow, frozen or tools are not working while they are in their meetings with the teacher, the home network speed and connection could be the issue.

  • Beginning today, here is the Lincoln School Chromebook Google Form for families if you are having issues with a Chromebook. We will be looking at this Form daily to assist students and parents with Chromebooks. There is also a button below that will be in all future newsletters.
  • Try Reducing the computing requirements on the Chromebooks themselves.
  • Capturing and displaying video is actually rather processor-intensive, disabling the camera will help free the resources on the Chromebook and smooth the connection so that the students can see and hear the teachers.
  • Improve the wifi connection.
  • The camera will actually degrade the wireless signal on some devices (especially older ones). By disabling the camera when not needed, it will allow a stronger Wifi signal to be received.
  • Going to the districts troubleshooting website is a great place to start.

This year’s distance learning is more structured and interactive than what students experienced in the spring. Improved structure, minimum direct instruction time requirements, academic schedules, assignments, and grading all make distance learning more similar to the regular school routines.

Attendance requirements during distance learning are also similar to the requirements of regular school. Students must log in and be present at the scheduled start of each school day and attend each subject’s or class’ live teaching that day. Teachers take attendance and record students that are not present during the live teaching portions of the student’s schedule. Although students are required to attend the live teaching portions of the day, students may elect to complete independent school work or assignments during any part of the day.

If your child will be absent, the child’s parents are required to call the school’s absence line and notify the school that their child will be absent. If your student is marked absent and a parent has not reported the absence to the school, an automated attendance call and text will be generated.

Regular attendance is essential and District 15 schools are required to follow their attendance and truancy procedures. If your child is unable to participate in live teaching due to technology problems, parents should contact the school’s attendance line so that your child’s absence can be marked as an excused absence. Our absence line number is: 847.963.5702

  • Starting August 19, meals are only available to D15 students, and will be charged to their meal account according to their meal benefit status.
  • Kindergarten PM students and Early Childhood/Preschool PM students are not eligible to receive meals, regardless of their meal benefit status, because they are not eligible for meals during normal school operation.
  • Menus and Meal Distribution Locations can be found HERE

Instructions for picking up food are as follows:
