A Note From Mrs. Waters
We had a great international week. It was fun celebrating that diversity at ASD. There are over 70 different nationalities represent at ASD.
Next week is Miss April's last week with us! She will be returning to the Philippines. In your child's green home folder is a blue sheet of paper. This weekend, please have your child draw a picture and/or write a note to Miss April on it so that we can make a book for her from all the students.
There will be no homework next week as it is the last week before the break.
Reading
During the read alouds the students will be learning what the author's message is.
Writing
Math
Students will be reviewing strategies to help them add and subtract to 20. They will also take the end of Unit 2 assessment.

Qatar National Day Celebrations
Coming up next week are our Qatar National Day Celebrations in the Lower Elementary division. OnTuesday December 13th we will be celebrating Qatar National Day in the lower elementary division by holding an activity day with Qatar themed activities. Students will be involved in a variety of learning experiences, centered on Qatar. We are looking forward to a learning and fun-filled day. We invite our students to dress in Qatar colors on this day.
Grade 2 Ornament Sale
On 11th of December there will be a sale of ornaments handmade by Grade Two at 3.00pm by Gate 6. Each handmade clay ornament is 10 QR with the proceeds going towards feeding, neutering and medication of cats on ASD's campus. Students can pay with their dragon cards.
Cafeteria Closure
The MS/HS Cafeteria will be closed to parents & students on Tuesday, December 13th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, for an all faculty & staff event. This includes the Coffee Beanery and Jazz Cafe stations. The ES Cafeteria will be open and selling sandwiches.
Celebrate Africa- Family Night on Saturday, December 10th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm
We invite you and your family to the Celebrate Africa Family Night on Saturday, December 10th starting at 5:00pm. This evening will include games for kids of all ages, the Green Maasai Group performers and authentic African cuisine. You don't want to miss this special event in support of the Machakos Education Center. What is the Machakos Education Center? Watch the video here to find out!

Opening of Children's Book Store
Kindergarten and 1st grade parents: The U.S. Embassy Doha invites you and your children to attend the opening of Bait Al Maarifa children’s bookstore in the Gulf Mall at 4:00pm on Wednesday, December 14th. Please join us for a ribbon-cutting and special story time reading with U.S. Ambassador Dana Shell Smith! The event will begin promptly at 4:00pm so we ask that you arrive at the store no later than 3:45pm. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Julia Kirby in the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy Doha no later than Sunday, December 11 at kirbyjj@state.gov.
Bait Al Maarifa is Doha’s newest children’s bookstore, and is stocked with the latest educational books, toys and learning games from the U.S., including Kinder Lab Robotics, Kids Fit, Aridan Books, and Melissa & Doug educational toys. Bait Al Maarifa is located on the second floor of the Gulf Mall, next to Daiso Japan and near Home Centre.
