What is FAFSA? (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
The FAFSA application opens October 1st for the Senior Class.
Financial Aid offices at College and universities use the FAFSA to determine eligibility for financial aid. Financial Aid can vary from student loans, grants, scholarships, and federal work-study programs. Filling out the application is not a commitment to using what you qualify for, you can deny the offer with no penalty. Some scholarships may require for the FAFSA to be filled out to be considered. it never hurts to have it completed and is very easy to do with their help. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity!
Information for FAFSA Completion Nights to come. Watch your email.
FAFSA Completion Night
NIC representatives will be there to help walk anyone through filling out the FAFSA application. They can answer any questions you may have and help make sure nothing is missed. The FAFSA may also be required for some scholarships. It never hurts to have it completed and is very easy to do with their help. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity!

College Applications & More...
Applications
If you plan to attend college or a technical school next fall, please begin narrowing your choices down and start looking at their application deadlines, as well as their financial aid and scholarship deadlines. Some schools will have application deadlines as early as November and December.
College Essays
Many colleges require an essay be submitted with your application. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to spend on your essays. This is your chance to share with admissions committees’ information about yourself beyond your transcripts!
Transcripts
Students may request a transcript through their Xello account. Go to the College & Career webpage on the Lake City website to watch a tutorial on how to do so. Transcript requests are processed on Fridays. If you have questions or need help after watching the video, head to the counseling office. You can find the video tutorial here.
Letters of Recommendations
Please be sure to give anyone you are asking for a letter of recommendation 2 weeks’ notice to complete your letter. You may also want to have your Bio Guideline filled and printed off for them (located in your Xello account under links and resources). This will help your teacher, coach or community member write a letter that best reflects you.
Everyone knows scholarships are a great way to fund post-secondary education. They are considered "free money", making it easier for students to lower the cost of higher education. There are great search engines to help such as fastweb.com. Later in the school year State and Local Scholarships will start becoming available as well - watch for notification in your cdaschools email and continually check the listing in Xello.
Seniors - Direct Admission Letters
What is a Direct Admissions Letter?
The Idaho State Board of Education has implemented this initiative, called Direct Admissions, to provide more Idaho students with the opportunity to obtain a postsecondary certificate or degree.
Direct Admissions proactively admits Idaho public high school seniors to the state’s public higher education institutions based on each student’s grade point average (GPA) and college entrance exam score(s).
Curious to see if you received a letter? starting this year you can find out by creating an account on Apply Idaho. You will then be notified!
What should I do if I receive Direct Admissions Letter?
Congratulations!
Great job! Your hard work has paid off! Your Direct Admissions letter is a tentative acceptance to the Idaho school listed on letter. But you’re not done yet. Next, you will need to do some research on which of your options is the best fit for what you.
Once you’ve decided which school you want to attend, you’ll need to submit an application, even though you’ve been accepted. Completing an application is how students communicate to Idaho colleges and universities they are interested in attending. Using the Apply Idaho Application, you can apply to the Idaho colleges of your choice for FREE.
To start, you’ll need to register using your EDUID number, which is your state student ID. If you’re unsure of this number, ask your college and career Coordinator, Mrs. Georgius for help. You will also need a personal email address (not the one given to you by your school).
