CARE ISD: Striving to Produce the Nation's next Leaders

News for week of September 16th-20th

Dear parents,

As we move through the year, our students will focus on one math concept per week. This week's concept is the ability to recognize the numerals 0-9 as stated in our TEKS. In order to support student's through this process, I have them working together, cutting/pasting, and/or drawing the numeral using sand/ play dough. Working in groups is important because according to Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, students learn from each other (Feeney & Moravick & Nolte, 2013). Additionally, students are required to show their understanding of the concept by cutting/pasting and drawing the numerals using sand/play dough because these activities are good ways to strengthen their small motor skills (Feeney & Moravcik & Nolte 2013). Strengthening the small motor skills is crucial because doing so will help students be able to hold a pencil and write/color with more coordination.

Parents, we need to work together in order for our children to get the full benefit of their education; therefore, learning must not only happen in the classroom, but also at home. One of the ways to work together in order to achieve this goal is by participating in the classroom and showing our students that a family member can have a different role (Feeney & Moravick & Nolte, 2013). Participating in the classroom will allow for us to develop a plan that is adequate for the student (your child) to also practice at home. According to Feeney & Moravick & Nolte (2013), family involvement in the classroom is important because parents can serve as a resource to enrich the education of the students. Lastly, I will like to remind you that we will love to have you all to participate in our Eagle Council group, which is a dedicated group that works toward creating programs for the benefit of our children.
