PV Stars In the Spotlight!
Allison Symons
Allison is very supportive to the students in her classroom who need extra help with either academics or behavior. We have lots of needs on the classroom and she is right on top of it! She is always working with her teams- she works closely with her assistant, intervention specialist, other kindergarten teachers, small group and ENCORE teachers because TOGETHER is BETTER! We are fortunate to have her on our BIG BRIGHT PV TEAM!

Acceptance Week, “We are all more alike than we are different”
Student Council is sponsoring an “Acceptance Week” on April 1-April 5. We will be celebrating our differences at Pleasant Valley, and reinforcing the important message of acceptance and kindness to all. We will have the following spirit days:
“Dare to be Different Monday”- Wear mismatched clothing to show it’s OK to stand out!
“Tuesday- World Autism Day”- Wear red or blue to show your support and acceptance of individuals with Autism.
“What’s Your Passion Wednesday”- Everyone has unique interests and talents that we can share with others. Dress up to show something that you love!
“Neurodiversity Thursday”- To celebrate the diverse spectrum of the human mind, wear rainbow and or tie-dyed clothes to school.
“Sensory Friendly Friday”- People with disabilities may have a variety of sensory sensitivities. Dress up today in your most comfy clothes.
Learner Behavior Incentive for the month of April
April Habit Focus is #7 Sharpen the Saw- Balance feels best!
Remember as you are teaching the habits each of the 7 Habits is based on the:
See-Do-Get cycle!
The results we get in life depend on what we see. What we do in life depends on how we see the world around us.
The Maturity Continuum shows the relationships among the 7 Habits. It illustrates the stages of progression- how to become highly effective through moving from dependence to interdependence. The first three habits illustrate the private victory experience where we learn self-mastery and self-discipline. Habits 4-6 illustrate the public victory where we build deep, lasting, highly effective relationships with other people.
The last habit, Sharpen the saw, is about taking time to attend to ourselves and not being so engrossed with day-to-day activities that we lose sight of the need to replenish our personal resources. It is concerned with our whole being and not driving ourselves so hard that our future ability to live is compromised. In Covey’s terms, this seventh habit is about making the other habits possible.
Principle: To maintain and increase effectiveness, we must renew ourselves in body, heart, mind, and soul.
Paradigm (See): Effective- I nurture the goose that lays the golden eggs (vs. Ineffective- I focus only on getting the golden eggs.).
Behavior/Concepts (Do):
· Renew regularly in the four dimensions- physical (exercise, nutrition, rest, stress management), social/emotional (consistent deposits in the emotional bank accounts of key relationships), mental (reading, writing, learning, study), and spiritual (service, values clarification, inspiring, literature, meditation, nature)
· Be strong in the hard moments- self-discipline to reap rewards
Results (Get):
· Improved capacity
· Stronger relationships
· Greater reserves
· Continuous improvement
