from J & Mike

There are a number of items below in the newsletter. As Mike and I will be with you on Wednesday, we will share a few more things with you then. You recently received emails concerning SPLS (from Nicole Holt) and PBIS (from Mike) - please ensure you follow up with registering for these.

Looking forward to Wednesday! Make it a great week! or don't; the choice is yours (credit for that goes to John Mott).

from Professional Learning - Nicole Holt

In preparation for this year’s SPLS Work Day, you’ll receive a weekly tip that relates to one of the seven Standards for Professional Learning. The standards outline the characteristics of professional learning that lead to effective teaching practices, supportive leadership, and improved student results. They make explicit that the purpose of professional learning is for educators to develop the knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions they need to help students perform at higher levels. It is the hope that intentional focus on the standards in SPS will serve as a frame of supporting site based professional learning. Enjoy!

TIP OF THE WEEK:

Professional learning at your site must be driven by data from multiple sources, including common assessments, performance assessments, observations, work samples, performance metrics, portfolios, and self-reports.

Which type of data might you need to investigate more carefully as you determine next year’s learning needs? What patterns are surfacing from the data points you’ve studied?

#iTeachMO

The final chat of this #iTeachMO season is just around the corner. The theme Make an Impact continues as we discuss “It’s Not Over Yet!” This chat is connected to Indicator #2.1, 4.2, and 5.3 and explores engagement until the end of the year.

The power of the chat comes from a variety of educators learning together. Please encourage participation as you seem fit!

Ready - Set - Supply 2.0

A reminder that planning is underway for the 2019-20 school year Ready - Set - Supply Drive!

As we mentioned in the last update, partners have suggested we go with a “Back to Basics” list for participating schools:

  • Backpack

  • Mead Composition Book

  • 1” Binder

  • Crayola Crayons

  • Crayola Washable Markers

  • Crayola Colored Pencils

  • Earbuds

  • Scissors (Blunt/Pointed depending on age group)

Care to Learn has agreed to purchase classroom starter sets of Kleenex, Hand Sanitizer, and Clorox Wipes as they did last year.

Within the next month, we will be matching your school to a partner/partners AND we need your help to be successful. Please access the Google sheet to verify you list of partners PRIOR to April 16th. Strike through any partners that are no longer working with you. ADD any new partners that are not on the list. We also need you to determine a summer contact person (you or designee) and provide their email/best phone contact. Many decisions are made in the summer and we want to support our partners in equipping your students.

Once you receive your partner list, we’ll ask you to meet to review the plan with your partner, sign and email/fax a copy to our office (lrsearles@spsmail.org). This allows us to keep track of what has been promised and what sites might need additional support.

We appreciate the way you build and maintain these important partnerships that help EVERY student achieve success!!

Same is true from between admin and staff...
