Jamison Journal
Special Edition (8-31-20)
Thank YOU
Dear Jamison Community,
Thank you. My gratitude to serve this community is truly appreciated. With so much uncertainty in our world today, one thing remains constant for me, the support from the community. Many of you have reached out to me personally and sent well wishes with the planning and opening of this school year...thank YOU!
PLEASE take the time to read the information below...there is a lot!
Technology Pick-Up / Materials
TECHNOLOGY / SUPPLIES:
The logistics have been challenging but please know we have been hard at work. I am hopeful that we can begin a successful school year tomorrow (or Wednesday) with some of you as you plan on picking up your child’s technology and some supplies.
Pick-Up location: Recess lot (same process as last spring). If you are new to Jamison, simply pull around the school building to pick up your child's technology, etc...
Like last school year, please follow all CDC guidelines (wearing a mask) during this pick-up. Thank you!
*If, and only if, you have completed the My Payments Plus (MPP) electronic user agreement will your child get their device. If you haven’t completed this agreement, please do so by going to this website:

· Students in grades K-2 will each receive an IPad, charger, and stylus pen.
· Students in grade 3 will receive a laptop, charger, and a digital pen and battery.
· Students in grades 4-6 will receive all the required technology in a box (laptop, charger, and digital pen).
Tuesday’s pick-up times:
6th Grade 9:00 to 9:45
5th Grade 9:45-10:30
4th Grade 10:30-11:15
3rd Grade 11:15-12:00
2nd Grade 1:00-1:45
1st Grade 1:45-2:30
Kindergarten 2:30-3:15
Wednesday’s pick-up times:
Open for all grade levels: 9AM-3PM
Materials / Texts:
A few materials will also be handed out on Tuesday and Wednesday with our technology pick-up. In most grade levels, these supplies consist of some math materials and reading materials (texts). Many other supplies / texts are still on back order. I plan to have another supply/material pick-up during the week of September 14-18. From that point, if needed, I’ll have a supply pick-up on a monthly basis if we are in that situation.
It’s also important for families to stay on the same schedule with the teacher. Meaning, if you receive a “workbook”, please do not have your child complete the workbook over a weekend. Have your child stay on the same course of programming with his / her classmates. There are other ways to enrich the students.
Back To School Supplies
Back To School Supplies:
The “typical” Back To School Supply lists are posted for each grade level; however, please know that we are understanding that many families are going through difficult times. If grade level supplies can’t be purchased, our teachers will work with you. Additionally, if you have supplies left over from previous school years, feel free to use them!
Some community members have asked me for an extensive list beyond the grade level list. PLEASE know that the supplies listed below are nice to have, not a need to have. Allow me to reiterate that if a student doesn’t have the necessary supplies, teachers will assist in modifying lessons.
Additional supplies beyond the grade level supply list:

Classroom Placement
Classroom Placement Information:
Well, to state that placement was certainly unique this year would be an understatement. I’ve met with staff members multiple times to discuss so many different options. I had to take many things under consideration:
· Selection of learning style (traditional, hybrid, or virtual)
· Teacher recommendations
· Parent / Guardian input
· Class size
You’ll be able to access your child’s class placement on Wednesday, September 2nd via parent portal. As I have stated in the past, your reaction to his / her teacher can influence their opinions and their feelings. Kindergarten through sixth grade students at Jamison will all be starting virtually; however, when deemed appropriate, we will be returning to school in the learning models described above. Hence, the placement procedures this year were very different from year’s past. As always, I can’t thank you enough for your support and understanding.
Special Education:
Families that have children in special education will be receiving communication from their case manager. There is a possibility that you may have already received some level of communication. Please know we had to plan and coordinate caseloads based on a child’s IEP and their mode of instruction. If you have any questions about your child’s IEP, please contact your child’s case manager.
5th and 6th Grade Math Placement Info
Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade Math placements:
An email will be sent today to fifth and sixth grade parents. The email, to fifth grade families, will either state that your child was placed in Accelerated math or grade level mathematics. Both programs utilize Math In Focus as a resource to support the curriculum. Please know that if your child has an IEP in mathematics, he/she will be placed under the supervision of their case manager for math instruction.
In sixth grade, an email will state if your child was placed in Pre-Algebra or grade level mathematics. Please know that if your child has an IEP in mathematics, he/she will be placed under the supervision of their case manager for math instruction.
Be The Good
Be The Good:
With so much unrest in our world today, we can model the good. Everywhere we turn we see and hear new examples of negativity. I hope the students and staff are ready to make a difference, a positive difference, in our community. While it may be in the virtual platform setting, I truly believe we can model the Good in our community.
The GaGa Pit!
I can't wait for all of you to return to school to use our new GaGa Pit! Mr. Battis, PE teacher, will spend some time reviewing the rules and we will be able to play.
