Principal Message

Dear St. Mary School Families,

Welcome to the first edition of the Mariner Minutes! This will be the weekly school newsletter that will be sent to all school families. Please make sure your emails are current. This newsletter will provide an outlet to share upcoming news about the school and highlight amazing achievements.

I also want to express my gratitude to parents for your patience, feedback, prayers, and well-wishes as the reopening plan is developed and finalized. Parent, staff, community, and parish feedback have been crucial in developing the plan as has guidelines and recommendations from the CDC, State of Ohio, Erie County Board of Health, local health departments, Diocese of Toledo, other schools and administrators. Thank you!

First Day of School

The first day of school has been pushed back to Tuesday, September 8th. The first day of preschool will be the following week on the 14th. The new official school calendar will follow soon.

Update on 2020-2021 School Reopening Plan

After following up with parish leadership, the Diocese of Toledo, and Erie County Board of Health regarding the announcement on 8/5/2020 from the Erie County Board of Health recommends that all schools in the county implement full virtual learning, St. Mary School will continue, as of today, to plan for the 5-day in-person school. With measures in place according to guidelines set forth by the CDC, State of Ohio, Erie County Board of Health, and Diocese of Toledo, we are continuing to develop a reopening plan with the goal of 5-day in-person school. This plan will be submitted to the Erie County Board of Health and Diocese of Toledo to receive feedback. After receiving feedback, we will look to make necessary adjustments and prepare to present the plan to families and the public next week. Thank you for your continued patience and prayers as this plan is developed!

Online Learning Option

St. Mary School is offering an online learning format that will run synchronously with the in-person school. Lessons and materials would be provided through Google Classroom daily. A commitment for the first quarter is required. Please contact Mr. Mitchell if interested

Masks and Hygiene

This week the Ohio Department of Health issued a mask mandate for all students K-12 for the 2020-2021 school year. St. Mary School will require masks in accordance with the state mandate as well as for the preschool. Parents, please begin to work with your children on wearing masks properly and becoming comfortable wearing them. More information will come regarding masks and dress code.

Also, please practice proper hygiene as well. Please visit for guidelines.

Staff Updates

After interviews and input from the teacher panel, we have extended an offer out to outstanding candidates for both the third-grade teacher position and the fifth-grade teacher position. We also have a candidate for a music teacher who I am also extending an offer to join the St. Mary School team! Excited and hopeful to welcome excellent additions to the St. Mary School team soon!
