At this time we still have our other sports shirts for anyone that is playing and has not purchased their own yet. Check them out at:
You can purchase the sport shirts and they arrive directly to your address and they even have Afterpay so that it makes it possible to budget. We are looking forward to seeing these appearing on our sports fields.
Celebrating Matariki at Stanley Avenue School
Friday 21st July from 7.45 till 8.45 a.m. by Rooms 1-4
Come and help us celebrate the Māori New Year.
In Māori culture, Matariki is the name of the Pleiades star cluster and the celebration of its first rising in late June or
early July. This marks the beginning of the new year in the Māori lunar calendar.
This year it falls on Friday, 14 July 2023, which is during the school holidays.
Every year at Stanley Avenue School we celebrate Matariki, and like to involve our school community.
This year we are planning a Matariki Breakfast on Friday 21st July (Week 1 Term 3).
Who can come: All family members are welcome to attend, including siblings (pre-school and college) and parents.
Current Students can attend without family, with parental permission.
Breakfast will include: Weet-bix, cornflakes, fruit , waffles, sausages, bread, spaghetti and baked beans.
Tea, coffee, milo, water and juice will also be available
Vegetarian sausages are available if required-please let us know if you prefer this option.
Koha: In order to help us out with costs we would appreciate a gold coin donation per person, as a guideline
Please bring: To reduce our costs and our environmental waste impact, we encourage as many families as possible to bring their own cups, plates and cutlery.
Numbers: We need to do some forward planning so we are asking each family to indicate if you are coming to breakfast and we need replies back by Thursday 29th June. We will make a survey available through HERO next week, but will also have paper copies available at the office if needed. This is not binding, but helps us plan for catering.
We are still seeking sponsorship from our school and wider community to support us with this event. If you are part of a business or family who could help in any way please contact Chris Finucane/ Assistant Principal or John Byers /Principal.
Any assistance will be gratefully received.
Ngā mihi nui- Thank you!

Matamata Piako Library School Holiday Activities
Coming up in July, we are hosting a reading challenge and school holiday activities for the tamariki of our district.
Matariki winter reading challenge: During July, Matamata-Piako Libraries will be hosting a reading challenge for children aged 5-15. The goal is to have children record reading for 14 days, and complete activities related to the stars of Matariki. We are using a new program to record reading for our reading challenges, called Beanstack. It can be downloaded as an app on a tablet or phone, or logged in to on a computer. Check it out here: Beanstack: Reading Challenges and Personalized Recommendations
School holiday activities: In the library, we will be holding drop-in activity sessions both weeks of the school holidays with each day having a free activity relating to one of the stars of Matariki. These are based on the activities of the winter reading challenge, but it isn’t necessary to be signed up to come along and participate. Holiday Programmes (matamatapiakolibraries.co.nz)
