Fifth Grade News
Welcome to 5th Grade Cafe!
Math
In Math, we began setting up the routines and structures that we will use in Math. We focused on Numbered Heads. This preparation will help our math run smoothly and efficiently. The students also created an All About Me in Math page which was an awesome activity! They used numbers to describe themselves in whatever way they could. For example, they mentioned their height, address, and number of siblings. Ask your child what numbers they used to represent themselves!
Reading
A large component of our reading workshop this year will be independent reading time. This allows for students to take the skills taught during our mini lesson and practice them on their own. We discussed this concept in great detail and created a chart outlining what the students and teacher should be doing during each part of the reading workshop. In order for our students to be successful, we have been practicing reading stamina. This is a skill that we will continue to practice.
Writing
This week in writing we did an activity listing 50 things we love. This list will be used throughout our Personal Narrative unit to help generate writing ideas.
