November 11th Edition
Weekly Update
Welcome to American Education Week! Please read our superintendent's letter to parents/guardians regarding the upcoming week:
Dear Parents,
Each year we celebrate American Education Week to honor our public schools. The AEW tagline is "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility." North Palos School District 117 cordially invites all parents/guardians to visit your schools. The weeklong celebration will spotlight distinguished individuals who are critical in building great public schools for the nation's 50 million K-12 students.
The following special days have been set aside for American Education Week at the following schools:
Tuesday, November 13 - Sorrick School
Wednesday, November 14 - Dorn and Glen Oaks
Friday, November 16 - Conrady Jr. High and Oak Ridge
On your selected date, you will have a chance to observe class lessons. For safety reasons, please have your driver’s license on file in your child’s school office at least one week prior if you plan to visit during American Education Week. Be sure to make the school office your first stop to obtain a visitor’s pass. We would like you to avoid the beginning and ending of the school day since the opening and closing exercises are in progress.
Remember, District 117 belongs to you. Please take time to visit your schools. Thanks for supporting our Educational Programs.
Sincerely,
Jeannie Stachowiak, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
If you are available, we would love for you to come on Friday, November 16th to observe at Oak Ridge. Please ensure your drivers license is on file at the main office. If you are unsure, please call the office at 708-598-5713. Once you check in at the main office, you will be able to stop in your child's classes. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Have a wonderful week,
Beth Reich, Principal
Kevin Buscemi, Assistant Principal

Hippotherapy for Students with Special Needs
"Hippotherapy is a mounted activity utilizing the unique movement patterns of the horse. It is implemented by a PT, OT, or Speech Therapist. The child is not learning riding skills, but is gaining improvements in muscle tone, strength, postural control, balance, and coordination from weight shifts and postural displacement created by the unique horse's gait."
