Brentwood Elementary Mission Statement
~Achievement~Actions~Attitudes~
Happy Birthday Mr. Underwood!!!
A Note from the Principal...
Greetings Parents:
PIRATE DAY in First Grade:
Our first grade teachers use lots of rhymes and quick sayings with songs to help students remember grammar rules and letter-sound associations. Today, we celebrated –AR with Pirate Day! We hope you enjoy the pictures we have included for you.
CELEBRATING LUNCH:
Again, a reminder that we encourage parents to have lunch with their child but we must insist on eating only with your child. Make this a special time for you and your child.
VACCINATIONS:
Kindergarten parents are reminded that a record of ALL required vaccinations for kindergarten must be given to the nurse prior to September 30, 2015. State statute requires that all kindergarten students have specific vaccinations or be excluded from school. Please help us by attending to these quickly. Thank you.
QUOTE of the Week:
“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.” – Lady Bird Johnson, First LadySincerely,
Mr. Underwood
Buddy Bench & Picnic Tables Donated to Brentwood
The planning for the project began during the spring of 2015. Tri Kappa offered to pay for a Buddy Bench for each school. Boy Scout Troop 308 agreed to take on the task for Brentwood and Central. This initiative was the starting point for an eagle scout project. In addition to Tri Kappa sponsoring the benches, Brentwood's PTO sponsored the building of 2 picnic tables. The scout, Danny Shelton, a senior at PHS was able to find a bench design affordable enough to make two benches per school.

Chicken Wing Circle with Students of the Week!!!
Staff MVP of the Week ~ Miss Rachel Landis, Fifth Grade Teacher
Mr. Barry Osborne, fellow 5th grade teacher say Miss Landis is a welcome addition to their team saying, "Her willingness to jump in wherever needed is evidence that our students really benefit by having her as a teacher."
Miss Landis was born and raised in Plainfield and attended Marian University where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language grades K through 12. She played on the Women’s Golf team at Marian University and had the opportunity to coach four years of high school golf as well. This fall I have had the opportunity to be the Middle School Girl’s Golf coach.
Miss Landis has a very supportive family. She has a younger sister Sarah who is a nursing major at Marian University, her mom Polly, works at the high school, and her dad, Don is a local business owner. They are all alumni of Plainfield High School. They are very close and she enjoys spending time with them. When she's not spending time with her family and spending time with her boyfriend, Jared. Jared is also a golfer and has also introduced her to fishing and other new hobbies that they enjoy doing together.
Some of Miss Landis' Faves:
Color- Purple
Movie – The Sound of Music
TV Show- HGTV
Book- Devotionals, short inspirational stories
Music- Country
Flower- Hibiscus
Restaurant- P.F. Chang’s
Candy- anything Chocolate
What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t teaching?
"I love spending time with my family and Jared. Going on new adventures and trying new things are always fun. I have enjoyed coaching middle school golf and getting involved with the community across grade levels not just at the elementary level."
Where is the most interesting place you have been?
"Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It is so beautiful there and rich with culture. It is a neat experience when you are able to be immersed in a new culture and get a true feel. I love traveling to new places and learning about their cultures"
What is a teacher / student moment you remember fondly?
"It is always a rewarding feeling to see your students accomplish their goals. Most importantly, everyday amazing things happen in my classroom. My goal is to make each student enjoy learning as much as I do and to always feel welcomed in my classroom. I learn just as much as my students from them and can't imagine another career."
As a fifth grade teacher, what advice do you have for parents on how they can be involved in their child’s education?
"It can't be said enough to be involved and stay involved. Truly learn who your child is surrounding themselves with and what type of influences they are being exposed to."
What has been the most surprising change you have encountered teaching 5th grade after teaching Kindergarten?
"I began my teaching career in 5th grade and then moved to Kindergarten. Coming back to 5th grade is an exciting opportunity. My passion has always been teaching, no matter what grade level. I think the most surprising change this year has been the advanced curriculum. The students have been able to excel with the curriculum and get the most out of each day. It is amazing to be able to see where they start their elementary days and what they are able to do when they finish."
Mrs. Jennifer Gray, friend and co-worker of Miss Landis' says, "
Rachel is a very hard working and dedicated teacher. She will do anything to help her students succeed. She is great at sharing new ideas. I'm glad I get to work with and be friends with Rachel this year!"
