News for GLVN Volunteers (Thông Tin cho Thầy Cô GLVN)
Thank You For A Great Start!
Thank you everyone for such an awesome start to the GLVN year!! A few bumps in the road on the first day, but overall, there seemed to be a lot of excitement from the kids to be back with each other and with all of you.
I wanted to share some nice words I received in an email from a parent on Monday morning...
"Just some feedback after my first kids mass (for a long time). I was impressed with them. You have a lot of talented people there. The choir was great! Especially the soloists. Don't know if this was done in the previous years, but I do like the way the older classes cheer and welcome the younger kids as they proceed to church. Kudos to y'all for doing that. That was nice."
I'd have to say I agree with this parent! We have a lot of talented people in the GLVN program, and as you can see, it hasn't gone unnoticed.
Again, thank you for sharing your talents and your love for Jesus with all of our youth. We are so blessed to have you as part of this team.
In Christ,
Chi
Finding our Strength in Jesus
Students have arrived!
Welcome!!!
Luncheon in appreciation of all YOU!!!
Catechetical Sunday: September 18, 2016
(From the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website on Catechetical Sunday.)
See the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website for more resources for Catechists on a life of prayer.
All too often, we sadly see our young people walk away from Catholic life after Confirmation. This happens more easily and frequently when they have gone through their religious education experiences without developing affective relationships with Jesus. If Jesus is presented as a subject, he is easy to walk away from, just as young people will walk away from many of the other subjects they have learned in grade school. It is much harder (and less desirable) to walk away from a relationship. The key to developing this affective, intimate relationship with Jesus is a life of prayer. As catechists, may we dedicate ourselves this year and always to making sure that the Catholic faith is a faith prayed!

Morning Prayer Together
For those of you who missed the invite in the last bulletin.... at exactly 9:45 a.m. each Sunday morning, all catechists are invited to join us in prayer in the Teacher's Lounge. It will be brief (2-3 minutes) so that you can get to your classrooms before 10. Whether there are 30 of us or just 2 of us -- this brief prayer time will take place every Sunday, so please join in to offer up our day to Jesus!
All-School Prayer for 2016-2017
One of the suggestions that was submitted during our July teacher workshop was to choose an all-school prayer that we would all learn together. What a great idea and a great way to unite us all in prayer as a GLVN program!
The prayer was printed in English for you to hang in your rooms last week. This week we will have a Vietnamese translation of the prayer for you to post and pray as well. Please pick it up in your mailbox on Sunday morning! (Reminder the GLVN catechist mailbox is in Resource Center 1)
St. Thomas Aquinas Daily Prayer
Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. Amen.
Family Packet Information
Here's a look at the family packet that was mailed to parents last week to give them information they need for the beginning of the school year.
General Info
Forms that parents will return to you or the office (Please collect these when you get them and bring them to the GLVN office or leave it in the "mailbox" outside your class door.)
Student Policy & Photo Release Form
For You (This is a worksheet that hopefully parents will fill out to tell you more about their children. Keep these for your teaching team to help you get to know your students personally. Through a more personal relationship you, our youth will see Christ at work in their daily lives.)
Open House
On this day, you will have class with your students during the first hour. During the second hour students will participate in an all-school rally in the gym with our parish Youth Ministry Coordinator Christina, so that all teachers can be in their classrooms to meet and greet parents.

ACTION ITEM!
It's been fun to see the profiles come in! But we've only received a handful of these. Please send Thảo (ttlam089@gmail.com) your profile as soon as possible! Thank you!!!
This year, we really want our kids and families to get to know who we are as a GLVN team, so that they can understand us and our perspectives and experiences to support us and pray for us in our efforts to catechize their kids. Faith formation is strengthened when relationships are strong, and this is one way to help our students grow in their faith by sharing our own journeys, interests, experiences and hopes!
We plan to create a "Meet Our Volunteers" bulletin board near the GLVN office. Please see the info request below and share with us a little bit about yourselves!
