ALL GRHS STAFF AND STUDENTS MUST BE PROPERLY WEARING A MASK AT ALL TIMES IN THE BUILDING (EXCEPT WHEN SEATED AT LUNCHES).
A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Hello GRHS Longhorns,
Hello October! Thankfully it brings us cooler weather, unfortunately it is bringing lots of mosquitos, and finally it closes out the first 6 weeks! Monday starts our 2nd six weeks and 400 more longhorns will be joining us back face to face on Monday. That will make us 1600 on campus, if we all commit to continuing to following the safety procedures and protocols in place by wearing our masks, sanitizing, and socially distancing as much as possible we will continue to find the success we have had in the first six weeks. Please remind your student that following these rules are nonnegotiable if they are going to stay face to face.
Let me clear up some gradebook confusion. All GRHS teachers use the Canvas Dashboard to assign, turn in, and grade assignments. Canvas is the tool to collect all these things, and even though Canvas has grades attached to it, unless that are synced to Skyward they are not official. As it it has always been, Skyward is the official gradebook, attendance, and discipline system that you/your students 6 weeks information is recorded in. As a parent I have set up weekly Skyward notification reports to ensure I am staying on top of my own kids, and slowed the Canvas notifications down since Skyward is really where the end result matters. Bottom line is, checking Skyward is the critical component to staying on top of grades. Also, some teachers will assign more than the minimum of 3 major and 6 minors. This enables them some flexibility of dropping the lowest grade or having more to average together to help our Longhorns if the teacher decides to do so. Remember any MAJOR (not minor) grade under 70 is eligible to reassess up to a 70, but you/your student must take the initiative to work this out with their teacher. Unfortunately, our teachers are running as fast as they can, so they do not have one extra minute to chase them down to get this done, especially if they are virtual. As high schoolers now, the responsibility has shifted and the ownership has to, as well.
This weeks department Hawaiian spirit winner goes to....our LOTE (Language Other Than English) department, they had 100% participation and earned lunch on Monday! Check out their fun pic below!
If you, or your student is returning face to face for the 2nd six weeks from virtual please see the email I sent out on Friday for the procedures and expectations. (I have included it again)
This message is ONLY for virtual learners that are RETURNING FACE TO FACE for the 2nd Six Weeks!
If you are a VIRTUAL student transitioning back to FACE TO FACE Monday October 5th, please review the FACE TO FACE expectations and procedures we have in place. I am attaching my presentation again as a reference. We will also be hosting a short welcome back F2F (face to face) presentation Monday morning during 1st period in the auditorium to review expectations and pass out 2nd six weeks schedules.
- Students can enter through the front doors at 7:30 am and must report directly to the auditorium to check in with counselors, turn in a laptop (if they checked one out) and get an active face to face schedule. If your virtual student checked out a laptop for the first six weeks this MUST BE WITH THEM and checked back in. Please note, no student will be allowed back in class without it, as we need them for face to face learning.
- Student are allowed to get breakfast from the Cafe.
- Students must have a mask on AT ALL TIMES except while eating breakfast/lunch.
- Students riding a bus must wear a mask at all times.
- Students will use directional hallways and follow social distancing signage to help decrease the number of students travelling together down hallways.
- Please find my video intro that I did at the beginning of the year by clicking here: https://youtu.be/yNi239VD2ug
- Please find the presentation from my video by clicking here: 20-21 GRHS Longhorn Way PP.pdf
There was a lot more winning going on this past week for our GR Longhorns and we are looking forward to even more this week! Check out our newly added sports updates at the bottom of the Smore! Coaches who send me updates (by Saturday at noon) from the week and weekend will be added to the Sunday Smore!
Wednesday we are raising Breast Cancer Awareness by showing our GR SUPPORT by PINKING out the Klein Collins Tigers! Wear PINK Wednesday and Thursday is GAME DAY which is a PINK OUT HOME game at Traylor! General sales ticket LINKS will be sent out Tuesday morning for you to buy up to 2 tickets! Don't forget to MASK UP, Katy ISD shared that our fan section seemed to be a little lax with parents and kids at the football game at Legacy. Lamar is MUCH stricter with our guidelines, so please help us stay safe by following them (even when they are annoying to you). Thanks for your support!
Lots of winning happening at the Ranch! I can't wait to continue watching our kids SOAR! (Even if it's live streamed into my living room, I will ALWAYS be watching and cheering on our Horns). If you have questions regarding tickets or LCISD event protocols, Coach Cavallo, nor I have any control over that, you will need to use the LCISD Athletic contact information link for clarification. https://www.lcisd.org/departments/athletics
*Please see the livestream opportunities below, until we can get access to more tickets (as the protocols/restrictions are lifted) later in the season! For now, please be supporting any way you can...they appreciate it and can def feel it! #WeAreGR

LIVE STREAMING OF GAMES!
Each of those pictures on the LCISD Ticket page (see visual below) will take you to a different live feed. There are a couple of things you need to be aware of.
1. Terry, Foster, George Ranch, and Fulshear Gyms all have the HUDL cameras and will be live streamed to a YouTube channel that the LCISD District Athletic Department created. No one has access to edit or put anything on the channels except for the LCISD District Athletic Department. LCHS does not have a district YouTube page because they do not have the HUDL cameras to broadcast the games. The YouTube access is free. You just need to click on the appropriate gym image to be able to view what’s happening in that particular gym.
2. It’s important to remember that the feed is coming from the location of the game. For example, there will be a time where Lamar, Terry, and Fulshear are all watching the Foster channel to see the game that is being played at Foster. Please understand that only our home games are on the GR YouTube channel, and NOT our away games.
3. LCHS Gym, LCISD District Natatorium, and Traylor Stadium are all set up and run through the NFHS Network. There is a $10.95 monthly subscription. It covers everything they broadcast Nationwide. You will have access to any game played at Traylor Stadium, LCHS Gym, FBISD Gyms and Stadiums, and Angleton as well as other schools that use the NFHS Network.
You can subscribe to the GR YouTube Channel to make it easier to navigate to for the next HOME game; however, this will not work for our away games. Your best bet is to subscribe to the NFHS Network to be able to see our away district games. At this point, I am not sure what our pre-district opponents will use (if anything) to broadcast games. Katy ISD is allowing us to give 2 tickets to each athlete, so when we play a Katy ISD team, parents should be able to attend.
Here is the actual links to the various YouTube channels our district is using for HOME games:
