Food Drive - November 12 - November 19
The Society of St. Stephen’s is a non-profit organization that provides food to the needy families in Kingwood, Porter, New Caney and Splendora. They are totally dependent on the Kingwood community for contributions. In years past, local schools have generously supported this effort.
The Food Drive begins November 12 - November 19. You may bring non-perishable food donations to your classroom such as canned goods (fruits, vegetables, soups) as well as peanut butter, jelly and macaroni & cheese. Please no Ramen Noodles.
Grade levels will be competing with each other for the most number of items brought
Thank you for your support and generosity as we show our students what it means to care and to share.

As we begin to see some cooler weather, especially in the mornings, please remind you child to wear or bring a light jacket or sweatshirt for outside activities. Please LABEL clothing to be sure it gets back to you. I have had some very busy days so far this fall. I am seeing lots of illness, anything from nasal congestion with sore throats to vomiting and strep throat. Please remind your children to cover their mouths with their sleeves when coughing or sneezing. Good hand washing is the #1 defense against illness. Getting lots of rest, exercise, and eating healthy also helps them to stay well.
Some other reminders for you:
Illness: You should not send your child to school if he has had a fever (100 degrees or over), vomiting and/or diarrhea in the last 24 hours. If your child has seen a doctor for strep throat or conjunctivitis (pink eye), please let me know. He may return when he has been on antibiotics for 24 hours and well enough to stay at school.
Medications: If your child will be taking ANY medication at school, prescription or over-the-counter, I must have a medication form completed and signed by a parent. Over the counter meds may be dispensed with only a parent signature if given on occasion. If this medication is needed more than 4 times a month or more than 10 days in a school year, a physician’s signature is required on the form. ALL medication must be sent in with an adult in the original store package or with a pharmacy label. The medication policy can be found on the Humble ISD website or Greentree nurse’s webpage.
Screenings: I have started the annual screening for grades K, 1, 3, and 5. If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing, don’t hesitate to call me. I am looking for volunteers that are certified in vision and hearing to help me. Please let me know if you might be available.
Feel free to contact me for any questions or concerns at 281-641-1905.

Dear Parents,
We will continue with the Great 8 Skill of Self-Management.
Self-Management is a child's success in controlling his/her emotions and behaviors, especially in new and challenging situations. Here are things that you can do at home to help them practice. For example:
When children tantrum and cry it can be frustrating. Here are some things that you can do with your child to help them learn to control themselves and their tantrum.
Make a plan for what to do instead of crying/tantrum
Establish an incentive for every time your child does not have a tantrum
Play games to build frustration tolerance
Make specific target goals for decreasing behaviors
Never underestimate the power of your influence on your child: Try to manage your emotions as much as you are able
