Captain's Log

Usually this space is reserved for Dr. Steidinger to share important information with parents. Consider this a MUTINY! We have taken over her normal spot to offer a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our school's wonderful leader.

Dr. Steidinger has been named a 2018-19 WCPSS Principal of the Year Finalist!

Congratulations, Dr. Steidinger!

I haven’t failed.

I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

PTA Membership

The PTA relies on membership to keep us afloat here at Olive Chapel Elementary. For the 2016-17 school year, we were in danger of losing the PTA because we only had 9% membership. After sharing this vital information with parents, our membership goal was met by reaching over 20% putting us above other neighboring schools in the area. We need to keep this momentum going this year!

Our PTA provides fundraisers in order to support the needs of our school. The PTA helps support our teachers, in order to enhance our children’s learning experience. Join today and be part of the OCE PTA family. Together we can make a difference in our school.

School Volunteer WCPSS Background Check

Don't forget to register to be an approved WCPSS volunteer. Computers are available in the front office for you to fill out the necessary online forms. Track 4 parents will also have an opportunity to sign up during Open House.

YOU MUST SIGN UP EVERY YEAR! If you were an approved volunteer last year, you must resubmit your form each school year.

Grandparents Breakfast: Save the Date!

The Annual Grandparents' Breakfast is a wonderful event for our OCE families. Invite your child's grandparent(s) to join them for a before-school breakfast provided by OCE cafeteria staff and the PTA. The kids love showing off their school, their classrooms, and having a special breakfast together. The Book Fair will also open early for any grandparents who want to shop with their grandchildren (or for themselves)!

Tracks 1 & 3 will have their Grandparents' Breakfast on Friday, September 7th.

Tracks 2 & 4 will have their Grandparents' Breakfast on Friday, September 14th.

We also need a few volunteers to help set up. Please use this sign-up if you can help.

OCE 2018-19 Student/Parent Handbook

Just a reminder that the Olive Chapel Student/Parent Handbook is chuck full of information on school procedures, lost and found, important school phone numbers, the OCE Positive Reinforcement System, and more!! This is different from the orange WCPSS handbook you should have received at meet the teacher or open house.

This school-specific handbook can be found on the OCE website and will also now appear as a button at the bottom of this newsletter for quick reference.

Go, Play, Save!

Last chance to order your Go, Play, Save books! Don't miss out - this Beacon writer is already using her coupons around town.

Tracks 3 & 4 orders or returned books are due August 22nd.

Tracks 1 & 2 sales have come to a close as of Friday, Aug 10th. If you do not wish to purchase or sell your book to a family member or neighbor, you must return it to the school ASAP.

Volunteer Book Fairies Needed!

The Enchanted Forest Fall Book Fair is coming! And since it doesn't come with real fairies to help get the work done, we are in need of parent volunteers!

Here's what you need to know about volunteering*:

  • Any parent is eligible to volunteer to help with the book fair.
  • Shifts are only an hour and a half.
  • Duties include helping younger students (K-1) write their wish lists during preview days and helping at the register on purchase days.
  • There are two early shifts on Friday, 9/7 and Friday 9/14 if before work is a better fit for your schedule.
  • It's super easy and fun!

If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Aimee Feuer at

* Fairy wings optional!!!

We are gearing up for our fall session where our focus will mainly be building up running stamina and preparing for our 5k in the spring.

Kids Corps

Kids Corps is a student led service club at Olive Chapel Elementary for our 4th and 5th grade students. Our club provides a service opportunity for students who want to be empowered to make a difference in the lives of others. We have been able to assist our community by organizing a Special Olympics at OCE, creating a Hurricane Relief coin drive, and donating needed items to the Wake County SPCA. The club meets Wednesday afternoons from 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
