Recognizing Pride Month
Royal Rosarian Newsmaker of the Year
The Royal Rosarians are honoring some of the 2020 heroes and heroines in the community. In partnership with the Royal Rosarians, KOIN TV is nominating LOSD employee Hector Calderon as its "Newsmaker of the Year." Newsmakers are awarded a Royal Rosarian bronze medallion.
In 2020 Hector made national news as the first person in a school district in the United States, and the first person in Oregon, to be diagnosed with the novel virus. He spent months on a ventilator in the hospital. The day Hector was able to return home was a moment of incredible joy during this entire pandemic.
Hector is now back at Forest Hills Elementary, where he is a beloved member of the school and district custodial team. When asked about the ordeal, Hector says he is grateful to God, and to our community. We are all grateful for Hector.
