Dutch Fork Elementary, Title One Week 5

Celebrating Constitution Day Sept. 17

We celebrated Constitution Day through a classroom reader's theater and breaking apart the complicated vocabulary of the Constitution and rewriting it in our own words. Here are a few paraphrases of the Constitution in kid friendly language as written by some table groups:

"We the people assemble to stay together like glue, to make rules to have peace and to provide for the military in order to have a better life and have freedom and happiness."

"We the people declare that in order to have a better life, we must have freedom, peace and happiness."

"Build friendship to stay together and have safety and peace. We do not have to worry about getting hurt and we have freedom. Since we have freedom, we have happiness and we can declare things and write what we want."

Field trip info

Thank you for returning the permission slips and field trip money promptly! Chaperones are asked to sign in at the front office of DFES and follow the bus in their own vehicles as we have just enough seats on our buses for students and teachers. We will be leaving the school at 9:00am. Thank you to those who have signed up to chaperone:)

Please wear closed toe shoes (tennis shoes or sneakers) as we will be outside for part of the day. Also keep an eye on the weather and dress accordingly- field trip is on rain or shine!

Food Drive

SEPTEMBER IS

HUNGER ACTION MONTH

At DFES…The Academy of Environmental Sciences, we are committed to social action in support of our community. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students are learning about communities and their roles as community members. Students in upper grades are using the inquiry process to discover how they can personally bring about change in the community as social scientists. Please join us for a food drive in support of District Five’s Snack Pack Food program. Items donated will go directly to students in our district who participate in this program. We will be accepting donations listed below until October 3, 2014. You may send the items with your child at any time, and their homeroom teacher will explain where the items will be collected. Thank you for your contribution!
