HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 1 Week 4 - 28 February 2020
FROM GEORDIE:
Good afternoon…
As Week Four comes to an end we have 50 very excited Year 6 students ready for a week at camp! On Tuesday morning Miss O’Neill, Mr Edwards, Mr Darby, Miss Pedler, Mrs O’Connor, Mrs Milne, Miss Brennan and myself will be travelling to Nanga in Dwellingup for a week of fun, friends and adventure! Nanga is a beautiful spot, under the trees in a log cabin with plenty of exciting activities to help students build their relationships, teamwork, resilience and of course are a lot of fun!
Our 5D classroom is still on track to be completed today and we look forward to our students settling back into their room with a beautiful new ceiling, complete with electrics and new lighting. I would like to say one final thank you for your support through this process, to the builders for getting it sorted as quickly as possible and the students for their flexibility and attitude to being in the staffroom!
In the past couple of weeks we have had some staffing changes that will take effect next week. Hayley Baylis, our assistant in Kindy has resigned to take on new challenges and we thank her for her contribution at Holy Rosary over the past two years. Mrs Diana Thorpe has been appointed to this position for the rest of 2020 and I know the Kindy Team are excited to be working with such an organised and enthusiastic staff member in Kindy C. With our 3YO Kindy numbers increasing quite dramatically over the past month we are also welcoming Mrs Iveta Kribalova to our 3YO Kindy Team. Many parents may have seen Iveta around the school in relief positions and her kind-hearted, nurturing and organised manner has been an asset to our school already.
Have a great long weekend and wish me luck as I am taking my twins, George and Audrey, down to Denmark to go camping while my wife Nicole is relaxing in Bali!

Project Compassion
Project Compassion boxes have been sent home this week. Please support Caritas Australia this Lenten season themed “Go Further Together”.
As Teresa of Calcutta said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things, with great love.”
Through your generosity during Project Compassion this year, you will be helping empower our world’s most vulnerable communities to grow stronger and share their strengths with their communities to lift themselves out of poverty.
PARKING - STAFF CARPARK
There are still a few parents using the staff carpark to drop off children in the morning, waiting for their children in the afternoon or pulling into the driveway of the carpark to drop children off on the footpath. As from next week there will be builders working in the carpark and the Demountable will be delivered so please do not enter the Staff carpark or driveway.
PARKING - ON VERGES OPPOSITE SCHOOL ENTRANCE
People are still parking on the verges opposite the school entrance on Angelico Street.
The Rangers have been called and will be inspecting during the coming weeks. Please do not park there. Use either Hale Car Park or the Drive Through for drop offs and pick ups.
Sick/Unwell Children at School
If your child is unwell/sick, please refrain from sending them to school. An unwell child in a classroom will spread their illness quickly as the children are in close contact with each other. Parent support is needed to ensure our children stay as well as they possibly can during the school year. When an unwell child is in a classroom environment, bugs can travel quickly. We rely on our parents to support this policy as we have children in our school who can become very ill, very quickly. Your efforts and concern for other students are highly valued.

Science Snippets
We have had a busy week in science classes!
Year 6 are designing and making water wheels to investigate who will win the class challenge of hoisting a nail using the least amount of water.
Water is a natural energy resource which has been used in this way for a couple of thousand years.
Year 2 investigated the effects of forces on 2 pieces of falling paper. One was scrunched and one was flat. Gravity pulls them down but air has a pushing up force against the paper. Which one hit the ground first?
