JMMS Weekly Update

Principal's Message
How you play the game matters. Most of the stories that I share with staff and students are personal stories. I don’t believe my life has been one of glamour and fame, but I have had the opportunity to meet good people. Those people I would consider good friends are those that have integrity. They will tell you the facts as they see it even if it is not in their best interest. Working in a school I expect kids to make mistakes because they don’t have the life experience. Kids live trying not to make waves and to please those around them. As adults we need to remember that someone is always watching what we do, sometimes it might be our child, spouse, friend, or employer, and other times it's our conscious.
When I was 13 years old my dad took me skiing and asked me to squat down as we purchased lift tickets so he could buy me a child lift ticket. At the time children’s tickets were for kids under the age of 12. It was positively the worst day of skiing that I ever had, I was self-conscious from 9:00 am until the day ended. I hated that feeling and vowed that it would be the last time I would turn my back on integrity.

Gates
Drop off and Pick up
- We ask that students that have PE period one or two use the Bus Loop to drop off and that they access the PE field through the side gates.
- All other cars should use the school's main loop and pull as far forward as possible without bumping the vehicle in front of you. When the line stops we will send students one of two main entrances and make their way to class.
- Remember to maintain social distancing and to wear your mask.

Teacher of the Year (JMMS Staff)
This year, which has seen a fantastic amount of turmoil and stress, the JMMS staff has been incredibly responsible and responsive to student needs and one another. As a group, we have acted as counselors, parents, siblings, teachers, listeners, and friends. Peers providing a helping hand and picking one another up when they needed it or providing a shoulder to lean on when needed. I am proud to be a Dust Devil in one crazy year.
Anti-Smoking Lessons
Classified Employee of the Year (Pedro Martinez)
Everyday Pedro is going above and beyond to help clean, remove the trash, make repairs, cover for others, and smile through it all. He always asks me about my day and takes the time to show he really cares about the team. Because of circumstances beyond his control, Pedro is the sole custodian working at Joan MacQueen. He works 12 hours a day and every one of those hours he is working. From one task to the next he continues to make sure that the staff and students are in the cleanest environment possible. His work ethic is second to none and for that, he is the Classified Employee of the Year.

CAL FIRE COVID Testing March 10th
Mask Wearing is Mandatory
As we plan for reopening in-person instruction on March 15th and continue to work on procedures, it may be helpful to understand the mitigation strategies with stronger evidence supporting their use. The list below shows the most effective interventions in reducing the risk of Covid transmission.
- Face coverings.
- Stable groups.
- Physical distancing.
- Adequate ventilation.
- Hand hygiene.
- Symptom and close contact exposure screening, with exclusion from school for staff or students with symptoms or with confirmed close contact.
- Surveillance or screening testing.
