IB Juniors are meeting with Mrs. Hurst!
Every "red" Wednesday, the IB Junior Class students are meeting for lunch with Mrs. Hurst to discuss their IB curriculum, volunteer requirements, essay writing and other important topics! The IB Senior Class students are also going to meet to discuss these topics! What a great way to help each other connect and be successful in IB at DHS!
DHS announces 2014-15 Teacher of the Year!!!
Congratulations to Coach Christopher!!!
Decatur High School proudly announces Mark Christopher as the Teacher of the Year for 2014-15 Academic School year!!! Mr. Christopher was born in Galltin, Tennessee but grew up in Decatur. Mr. Christopher earned a B.S. in Mathematics at Athens State University and a M.A. in School Counseling from The University of West Alabama. He has been teaching at DHS since 2007 in the areas of AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus, 9th Honors Geometry, Regular Geometry, Algebraic Connections and Algebra A/B. Mr. Christopher has received several awards and recognitions such as the A+ College Ready AP Calculus Instructor for Huntsville City Schools AP Calculus Students and the Head of the Mathematics Department 2012. He coaches JV Girls basketball and coached boys/girls tennis for 7 years. Mr. Christopher enjoys teaching, coaching, hunting and playing with his sons! Congratulations to Mr. Christopher on this awesome recognition!

There will be an informational meeting at Decatur High in the cafeteria on Thursday, February 12, at 6:00pm so you can learn about these exciting opportunities! AP and IB coordinators and teachers will be available to answer questions. Please join us!
$1,000 to United Way!!!!
Decatur High School raised $1,000 for United Way by hosting the Swamp Johns event at Decatur High School in January! The students presented a $1,000 check to United Way! The DHS student council and National Honor Society hosted the event and would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to everyone who helped and participated!

There were many categories for the dip contest, such as...appearance, testure, most original name, healthy, best test, creative and all around!

Mrs. Horton's Classroom won the competition with a Cowboy Caviar spicy corn dip! Thanks to Coach Laughlin for organizing the event!

Our DHS Hospitality & Tourism and Food & Nutrition classes prepared breakfast for Dr. Nichols and the Human Resources representatives of Morgan County. The food was delicious and all of our guests enjoyed the hospitality provided by Mrs. Yates, Mrs. Creekmore and their students!
FCCLA meeting is coming up!
The FCCLA meeting will be Monday, February 9th!
This meeting will be a planning meeting about the upcoming Morgan County FCCLA meeting and field trip! Hope to see you there!

The Lady Raiders had a big win over Bob Jones at the end of January! GO LADY RAIDERS!
The regular basketball season will come to a close now and the Lady Raiders will take on Austin High School at 7:30pm on Wednesday (2/4/15). The game will be held at AHS! Hope to see everyone there!

Please help DHS collect jeans and donate them to homeless youth in the community!
Decatur High School students made a significant contribution to an international campaign encouraging students to collect jeans for homeless youth in their community last year! Our school received $10,000 to purchase iPads for the school! Please bring any jeans that you could donate to the DHS Media Center! Let's help the youth in our community right here in Decatur!!!! This year, the winner will receive $5,000 and a personal concert at Decatur High!
