The Grove

Be Kind, Work Hard, Be Brave

Note From Principal Graham

This week was Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. Thank you to everyone who has shared such kind words and gifts for our teachers and school staff. Our staff definitely felt the love and appreciation of our Oak Grove families!

Next week we begin state testing for our third, fourth, and fifth graders. We are excited for them to show off all the hard work from this school year and all of their academic gains. We are asking that the chromebooks remain at school so they are fully charged and ready for testing each day. Thank you for your adaptability during testing time. This week, Ms. Hillman's students had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the opening of the South Carolina Highway Patrol's Colonel's Cup Softball Tournament benefiting the SC Special Olympics. They did a wonderful job and we are so proud of them.

PreK Silly Face Cookies

Ms. Shuman's PreK students had a wonderful time making cookies for Silly Sally and decorating them with silly faces. Great job! Bet those cookies were yummy!

Achieving Goals and Ringing The Bell

It is such a joy to hear students ring the bell in the front lobby area signifying that they have reached their goal. We have some students that have had the opportunity to reach various goals getting to ring the bell multiple times. You can see below students holding up their fingers showing how many times they have rung the bell achieving yet another goal. That is awesome! We are so proud of all of the students at Oak Grove. Keep up the great work in achieving those goals.

DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR NEXT YEAR IS MAY 16

The district hopes to make signing up for bus transportation and riding the bus easier and more efficient for all families next school year. To do so, they are starting the bus registration process much sooner than usual.

if you would like your student(s) to ride the bus next school year (2022–23), you must complete the transportation registration form found in PowerSchool Parent Portal. The deadline to sign up for bus transportation is Monday, May 16.

Parents/guardians must log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to register. Below are directions. If you have already created a Parent Portal account, skip to Step 2.

You must complete a form for each child if you have more than one student.

Our transportation department uses this registration information to create the bus routes for next school year.

Another step toward improving transportation next school year includes slightly adjusting the start and end times for middle and high schools to allow buses more time to transition between routes.

2022–23 School Year Start/End Times (Lexington, River Bluff and White Knoll Schools)

Elementary School
7:40 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.

Middle School
8:05 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.

High School
8:40 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.

If your transportation needs change, or if you move, between now and the start of school in August, please contact your area transportation supervisor to make the change.

Big picture

It is more important than ever for parents and guardians to create a Parent Portal account in PowerSchool. We will now use PowerSchool to collect vital information to better serve our students and families.

For example, each year we ask families who want their students to ride the bus to complete a form. For next school year, you’ll only be able to access that transportation request form through your PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Other mandatory forms from your school, the school district and even the South Carolina Department of Education will be located on Parent Portal, too. You can also view your student’s attendance and grades in Parent Portal.

That’s why we ask you to go ahead and create your account today. This easy-to-use guide will walk you through the process.

If you do not already have a Parent Portal account, you will soon receive another secure email with your students’ Access ID and Access Password. You’ll need that ID and password to complete the steps listed below.

If you already have a Parent Portal account, no further action is needed.
