Kerr Family Updates

Start of school edition

Dear Kerr Families,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! We are looking forward to seeing all of our Kerr Tigers on campus August 8th. We have been working hard to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for all students. Please let us know how we can support you and your student this upcoming school year.

Mr. Lewis and Ms. Tones

New to Kerr?

Is your student new to Kerr? If so, we hope that they will join the NHS and NTLB teams for our annual Cub Camp. Students will have an opportunity to spend time with their mentor, meet their advisor, and learn more about our campus organizations. We hope to see all our new faces there!

First Day Schedule

On the first day of school (August 8th) all students will report directly to advisory for the morning and then attend all four classes for a shortened class period in the afternoon. During the morning advisory session students will attend a back to school session in the theater, ensure they have access to all schoolwide digital resources, sign up for smart tags/ids if necessary, and spend time getting to know their advisory group to assist them with a smooth start to the school year.

Bell Schedule

First period starts each day at 7:15. Students that arrive after the 7:15 bell must check in at the front office and receive a pass. If a student needs to leave campus during the school day, they must be checked out in the front office and exit through the front of the building.

Alief ISD has a closed campus policy. Students are not permitted to leave campus for any reason during the school day unless they have been checked out through the front office or are a senior with a designated off-campus class period.

Students who are absent or tardy 3 or more times to a class in a term will receive notification of a potential loss of credit in their courses. Excessive absences in a term will result in an attendance contract with the assistant principal's office.

Take care of yourself and others. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. Upon return to campus submit documentation of the reason for your absence to the attendance office.

Below you will find the Kerr daily schedule as well as a link to the district calendar. High school students are dismissed at 1:30 on Wednesdays (unless noted otherwise on the calendar) to allow teachers an opportunity to plan together.

Campus Expectations

Please click on the images below for guidelines regarding dress code, attendance, and integrity. Understanding and complying with our campus guidelines ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.

Textbooks and Supplies

Many of the required textbooks have an online option that is available to all students via both Schoology and the Hub. Students may also check out books if they prefer from the counter clerks in the academic centers.

Alief ISD is now a 1:1 district, and students are welcome to bring their own laptop or loan one from the district through the 1:1 student device program. There is a $20 fee and technology agreement form required to loan a device. You MUST HAVE a Technology Lending form completed and SIGNED as well as a $20 fee that is paid to cover insurance cost on the device BEFORE the device can be checked out. This can be paid in person with cash or on My School Bucks. The fee includes insurance on the device. For more details on the program, see

School supplies - individual teachers will share with students any specific course supply needs on the first day. Something to write with and something to write on is always a good place to start. ;)

Campus Communication

All students have a Schoology account and are enrolled in campus groups to stay up to date on calendars and announcements. Each student should be a member of the Kerr Student Resources group as well as a "Class of" specific group for their grade level. If your student does not have access to these groups, they should communicate with their advisor to get assistance in getting added.

Support Services

Schedules will be viewable through the Home Access Center by 4:00pm on Wednesday, August 3rd. New to Kerr students will also be able to receive their schedule at Cub Camp.

Students that do not know their Home Access Center password can receive assistance by calling the front office (281-983-8484) between the hours of 7-3.
