Engineering Internship Opportunity for 3rd and 4th Years!!
ACE Mentorship Program of Plano/Frisco.
ACE is free after school program for juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. Students learn about various A-C-E industries each week and are mentored by local A-C-E professionals.
The ACE Mentor Program of Plano/Frisco meets each fall semester here in Plano (Legacy and the Dallas North Tollway). The mission ofACE Mentor Program of America, Inc. (ACE) is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentoring and to support their continued advancement in the industry.
Our ACE Plano/Frisco Program begins Thursday, October 4th and ends Thursday, January 31 with our ACE Awards and Presentation Night. We will meet every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm (most of the time in Plano). The program will last about 15 weeks (minus holiday weeks) and cover all topics you see in the attached schedule.
Students do have to apply to be part of the program, but the program is absolutely free. We even have scholarship opportunities for the seniors at the end of the program (This past fall we gave away $20,000 in scholarships).

2nd Years
It’s been a busy week of data collection on the second floor of the Academy! Learners are finishing up their third week of school, as well as the last day of data collection. We’ve seen some pretty strong data tables, and have been impressed with the level of efficacy that many Second Years have been showing in their data collection methods. The Labor Day weekend is a welcome respite, but it also signals the end of True Grit. Learners will present next Thursday and Friday, sharing their data, methods, and any conclusions that are supported by their findings. The skills and knowledge that the learners have been building and demonstrating during True Grit will come to be the foundation of many future projects, and we are pleased to see so many strong foundations to build upon this year.
3rd Years
3rd-year learners are very focused on completing their articles for possible newspaper consideration. Their rough drafts are due next Wednesday and each day brings us closer to publication. In order to prepare for publication, teams have begun drafting possible layouts in technology and practicing working with InDesign.
The English/rhetoric class has spent the last few class periods paired with either science or history. When paired with science, learners examined how claims, evidence, and reasoning (CER) is present in scientific research as well as persuasive texts. When paired with history, learners investigated the rhetorical structure of landmark US court cases.
4th Years
This week 4th year learners completed their Critical Reflection, which included an analysis and evaluation of their learning experiences. This reflective work is integral to being able to fully articulate not only their desire, but most significantly, their ability to engage in the work they intend to propose for Capstone area of study. After extensive peer and facilitator review, learners were then able to finalize their research question. Time was also devoted to the study of historical innovations that influenced American government.
Next week Calculus learners will take a test over limits and continuity. Learners will also have the opportunity to practice their Capstone pitch to facilitators. Below, Maverick shares an artistic representation of his learning experiences at the Academy.
