Austin ISD 2020–21 Family Survey is now available
The Austin ISD 2020–21 Family Survey is now available and is accepting responses online through March 5, 2020.
Families are encouraged to participate so they can share input on district and campus performance. The survey includes questions about how well school staff and leadership communicate with parents, as well as how easily parents may communicate about their students and how families learn about programs offered at their school. Due to COVID-19, it is especially important this year to provide your opinion to ensure we are providing a great experience for you and your child.
The results will help district leadership learn how to best to improve services for our students.
Please click the link to access the survey.
Student Cameras for Virtual Learners
Starting in January we are asking that all students at home have their cameras on during class. This is no different than if a student were sitting in class in front of a teacher, with all other students able to see them. We have found it is extremely difficult for our teachers to be effective while teaching to a computer monitor full of black rectangles with names. The teacher gets no visual feedback, no way to see how students are reacting, or to see how they are engaging with the lesson. The two-way interaction between students and teachers is vital to the way successful learning takes place, even in a virtual classroom.
We need your help! Please insist that your child has their camera on so we know they are there, and we know they are engaged in the lesson. As the curriculum gets more complicated in the spring semester, we want to make sure the students are interacting with the teacher on a daily basis so they can take advantage of asking questions and getting clarification. Positioning your child with their back to a wall will maintain the privacy of your home, and headphones/earbuds will allow them to focus on the lesson.
AISD Mass COVID-19 Testing
As a reminder, we are providing FREE rapid COVID-19 testing to all students and staff throughout the district. Testing at the below events is available to all AISD students and staff, including those learning or working remotely.

Don't forget your mask!!
Face mask
Wearing face coverings correctly and consistently can helps slow the spread of COVID-19. The cloth face cover is not a substitute for social distancing; individuals are advised to continue to keep 6 feet between themselves and others, even when wearing masks. The use of cloth face coverings is especially important when students, teachers, and staff are indoors and when social distancing of at least 6 feet is difficult to implement or maintain. The CDC offers useful strategies to support students’ wearing cloth face coverings in schools, including strategies specific to elementary, middle, and high school settings, and for students with special healthcare needs. Face coverings are used to prevent infected persons from spreading the virus to others; per the CDC “Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth.”
Except as otherwise provided as an excpetion, all persons age 10 and over must wear a face covering on buses or other school transportation vehicles, inside school buildings, and anywhere on school grounds, including outside. In the school setting, this generally applies to students in 5th grade and above. However, face coverings are recommended for children two years of age and older; in the school setting, this generally applies to students in Pre-K and above.
