Weekend of Welcome
As many things are, this year's Weekend of Welcome will be largely virtual. As part of the First Year Seminar, students will complete their GC Passport -- a series of modules and workshops that cover topics like campus safety, community engagement, resources, bystander intervention, diversity and inclusion, and much more. As part of Weekend of Welcome, students will also attend GC Reads, a micro-seminar that gives new students a glimpse at the classroom experience before classes really start. We will also hold a virtual Convocation -- a ceremony that kicks off the academic year with pomp and circumstance.
And then there's the fun stuff! Adhering to social distancing guidelines and our campus mask requirement, we will provide social activities for students on the evening of each move-in day.
- Saturday, August 8 - The Campus Activities Board will host a mask tie-dye party where students can customize a new facemask for their collection.
- Sunday, August 9 - Dual movie night at West Campus and Central Campus. Students can choose from two films: Pitch Perfect on main campus or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on West Campus. The Kona Ice truck will be making the rounds with shaved ice for all attendees.
- Monday, August 10 - Bobcat Marketplace on the main campus residential quad where student organizations will showcase their clubs, and new students can learn more or join on the spot. Also that evening, roommates can sign up together for a Scavenger Hunt of campus and the surrounding community.
Student Apps
- Corq - Corq is an events app that syncs with GC Connect, our hub for campus organizations and events. When students download Corq and select Georgia College as their campus, they can get a personalized calendar of events happening every day on campus. *Students must use the Event Pass in Corq for Weekend of Welcome events. Tip: They can save their event pass as a photo in their phone or add to their Wallet for easy access at events.*
- GC Wellness and Recreation - The Wellness and Recreation app contains schedules for group fitness classes, intramural and club sports practice, sign-ups, and much more. Any student who plans to use the WRC or join rec sports should download the GC Wellness and Recreation app!
- TransLocRider - This app allows students to track shuttles along their route to know exactly when the next bus is arriving.
- Rave Guardian - Rave Guardian is a security app that communicates with GC Public Safety. One of the best features is the "never travel alone" function. Students can set a timer when they leave one location to estimate when they should arrive at their destination. If the timer runs out and the student doesn't check-in, Public Safety will be dispatched to assist.
- Laundry View - No more waiting for the laundry to finish! Laundry View shows students when their laundry is finished and how many machines are available. Plus, they can report a problem instantly if a machine needs service.
