Who is scheduled to take PARCC Assessments?
ELA
- All students grades 9-11 enrolled in English 9, American Literature, & British Literature are scheduled to take an ELA PARCC Exam.
- Students in AP Language DO NOT take an ELA PARCC Exam.
MATH
- All 9-11 students enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry, & Algebra 2 are scheduled to take a Math PARCC Exam.
- Students in Pre-Calculus DO NOT take a Math PARCC Exam.
Graduation Assessment Requirement (NJDOE)
The Graduation Assessment Requirement is different for each grade level this year. For a summary of the requirements from NJDOE, use this link. Regardless of Graduation Assessment Requirements, all students are encouraged to participate in all PARCC assessments associated with their HS course work.
9th graders
Must pass ELA10 and ALG01 PARCC Assessments to meet graduation requirement. Student of the class of 2021 are not permitted to refuse PARCC testing until they have met both ELA and MATH requirements.
10th graders
Must pass one PARCC Assessment for both ELA and Math. Most 10th grade students have passed PARCC as 9th graders and have already met their graduation requirement. Students that have not passed a PARCC assessment, can use an alternative assessment (PSAT, SAT, ACT), however ONLY if they take ALL PARCC assessments associated with their HS courses. Therefore, it is required they still take PARCC assessments.
11th graders
PARCC Assessments are one of the methods to meet this graduation requirement. Students can pass a PARCC Assessment for ELA and Math or use an alternative assessment (PSAT, SAT, ACT).
12th graders
Guidance Counselors have been in contact with any Senior student that has yet to meet this requirement.
Test Refusal Process
PARCC Assessment refusals will not be accepted for any student who has not met their graduation assessment requirement in both ELA and MATH. Parents are encouraged to make an informed decision about PARCC Assessment refusal.
To refuse PARCC Assessments for your child, complete this form and return to MHS main office by 3/19/18. Any parent wishing to refuse PARCC Assessments after 3/19/18 must complete the form on the premises in the HS main office.
