Central American Independence Day Celebrations: September 15th

September 15th is a national day of celebration in much of Central America. The annual celebrations mark the end of Spanish rule, when Central American people won new freedoms without bloodshed. The day honors the Declaration of Independence signed by a group of countries that included what are now Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. They were also referred to as the United Provinces of Central America or the Kingdom of Guatemala.

These countries, plus Panama and Belize, make up modern Central America, which is Latin America’s geographic bridge between Mexico and South America.

For an entire month, starting each September, Central American countries celebrate with unique traditions, from parades to performances, dancing in the streets, and speeches from public officials.

Students explore volume, learn about orders of operations, present on Spanish speaking countries, and partake in our library orientation.

An important RMS Library message

The library has issued each student a home set of textbooks, a Chromebook, and a charger. If your student is missing any of these items, please have them visit the library. The library opened for browsing on Monday, September 12! Students can spend time in the library before, during lunch, or after school. Classroom visits throughout the school day are at the discretion of each teacher.

ASB card and clubs

Don’t forget to buy an ASB card for your student; the card gets them tickets to our three dances this year. They are only $11, which means a savings of $4! Get one before they are gone. October 14th is the last day to purchase! You may buy it on the RMS Webstore or ask for Martha in the main office.

If your student wants to start a club, they must complete a Club Application. Applications can be picked up in G-10 with Ms. Lewis. Club Rush is at the end of this month!

Pedestrian Safety Month

September is Pedestrian Safety Month which is a great time to remind everyone about the importance of safely entering and exiting our school. Recently, we have seen students darting across the street in the middle of traffic to get to parents waiting on the other side of Sagewood.

To keep all of our students and community members safe, we need your help. Please have your student use the crosswalks when crossing the street. This will eliminate parents having to slam on their brakes and our Wildcats getting injured.

Income Verification Forms = RESOURCES FOR VUSD!!!!

Please take a moment to complete an Alternative Income Verification form, following the instructions provided in the Superintendent's Notification of Alternative Income Verification memo. This provides critical information to provide our student meals and other support programs across the district.

Partnering to Combat COVID-19 in Our Schools

Vista Unified will continue to follow the guidance from the SDCOE COVID-19 Decision Trees for K-12 Schools.

  • Individuals who test positive must isolate at home and may be released from isolation on day six, provided that symptoms are improving, they are fever-free for the past 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and they have a negative test result from a rapid antigen test taken on or after day five.

  • If the individual is asymptomatic, day zero of isolation is the day the individual was tested. Day one is the first full day following the day the individual was tested.

  • If the individual is symptomatic, day zero of isolation is the day of symptom onset, regardless of when the individual tested positive. Day one is the first full day following the day that symptoms started.

  • Employees eligible for shortened isolation must continue to wear a highly protective mask at all times in the workplace around others, except when eating or drinking, for 10 days after the date of the positive test.

  • Students ending isolation early are strongly recommended to wear a highly protective mask when around others, except when eating or drinking, for 10 days after the date of the positive test.
