Greetings Rider Nation!
We are currently wrapping up a busy winter season here at Red River. The girls’ hockey team just capped off another competitive season finishing with an overall record of 15-10. The KnightRiders entered the state tournament as the 4 th seed and defeated Minot in the opening round to advance to the semis. The KnightRiders then lost two hard fought games with the states top teams in North/South and Bismack. Morgan Stenseth, Shaley Richards, and Hannah Gray were named to the all-conference team. Our wrestling saw a change in leadership this year and RRHS alum James Covington took the reins. The Riders battled injuries all year, but competed in the weights filled. Camden Larsen highlighted the year with his 8 th place finish at state! Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will begin EDC tournament action this week. The boys finished the regular season in 8 th place (7-15) and travel to WF Sheyenne for the opening round. The girls finished the regular season 18-2 and were crowed regular season champions for the first time since 2005. The ladies will face Valley City in the opening round this Tuesday night. KnightRider gymnastics had yet another great season and finished runner up in the EDC meet and 5 th place at the state meet. The KnightRiders placed Lauren Swanson, Kayla Lamoureux, and Delani Barrett on the All-Conference Team. Boys swimming and diving are once again a young, but eager team that saw PR’s almost every single meet! Finally, the Red River boys’ hockey team capped off an excellent season under first year head coach Tim Skarperud. The boys finished 12-3-2 on the year and finished runner up at both the EDC and State tournaments, which included a 3-2 overtime thriller against Grand Forks Central in the State Championship. The Riders placed Wyatt LaDuc and Matt Scribner on the all-conference team. Congratulations to all teams that have finished their seasons and good luck to those with tournaments approaching!
The fine arts have also had a successful winter with many amazing performances! The manatones and velvetones have been busy serenading people (socially distanced) during the valentine season, while the theatre department just wrapped up their winter comedy “Small Actors and Competition Piece”. Such an amazing job by the entire cast and crew in adapting to new regulations and protocols. The detail that normally goes into a show is impressive, but the level of detail during a pandemic makes you really appreciate the hard work that all the individuals put forth to make this happen! We also have many concerts fast approaching
with Choir on March 4 th (7:00pm), Orchestra on March 9 th (7:00pm), and Band on March 11 th (7:00pm). All performances will take place in the Red River Performance Hall and attendance is limited. Amazing job throughout this year by so many talented Riders!
This February, Red River participated in Giving Hearts Day. Giving Hearts Day, February 11th, is a day for donating to non-profit organizations and charities in the North Dakota and Minnesota area. The Red River student council created signs and videos about the event and students wore red on February 10th and 11th to spread awareness. Students and staff also shared Instagram posts, and generously donated to many different non-profits and charities. There was also the option of giving essential items to those in need. Over 12 bags of essential items were collected and delivered to the Grand Forks Foundation for Education’s Giving Tree. The Red River student council would like to thank all the students and staff for their amazing support of this event.
With that, we say goodbye to winter (eventually) and hello to spring! Thank you to the entire Rider Family for all that you do to support our Rider students and community.
With Rider Pride,
Tyler Nelson, Activities Director

Monthly Cohort Calendar
Hybrid A/B days rotate each day and the pattern is not skipped due to holiday breaks, snow days, etc. If a week ends on a Cohort A day, the next day school is in session will be a Cohort B day.
If there is an unexpected school closure such as a snow day, the A/B schedule stays on the same rotation but is pushed back by the number of days the school is closed. For instance, if the last school day in session is a Cohort A day and the school is closed for a day due to weather, when the school reopens it will be a Cohort B day.
The Day 1/Day 2 schedule is only important for students that are enrolled in classes that meet EOD, every other day (Choir, Band, and/or Foundations of Fitness).

HOSA
February has been a great month for Red River High School HOSA! Since February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention month, HOSA students prepared suckers attached with positive messages to be distributed to all RRHS students and teachers as a way to spread awareness for teen dating violence. It was a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
RRHS and GFC HOSA students had the opportunity to view an autopsy that was performed at Ohio State University. As students witnessed the autopsy, a live pathologist was explaining the procedure and answering questions. It was an amazing and insightful experience that allowed students to learn more about pathology.
As State HOSA is coming up in April, students continue to prepare for individual as well as team competitions.
