Principal's Weekly Update
Term 2 Week 6
RAISE Goal: to enjoy being back at school and catching up with your classmates
Te reo phrase of the week: Kāti (that’s enough)
Kia ora,
We could not have asked for a better start back to school this week. It has been fantastic to see our students’ smiling faces around the place. The air has been filled with laughter, excitement, and the sounds of kids basically having fun. Our staff have been amazing and ensured that everybody is following our alert level 2 safety plan. Sanitising hands on entry/exit/break times, distancing measures within the classroom, using contact tracing registers, to name but a few of the procedures that we have in place.
A big thanks to our whanau who are dropping off/picking up their children at our school gates. Our advice from the Ministry of Education has not changed, which means that only essential visitors should be entering our school grounds. Therefore if your child is feeling more comfortable about attending school, please try dropping them off at the gate. Next week, once again we will have teachers on duty at the end of the day to ensure traffic safety. Thank you for your help and support with this. Please note this recommendation does not apply to the students in Room 6. Please feel free to continue to drop them off to the cloak bay and use the sign-in book.
Being a farming community often means that at this time of year some of our families will either change address within our area or move further afield. Can we please just ask that you either update your details at the school office or let us know that your child/ren will be moving to a new school (please phone or email).
Term 2 Teacher Only Days
We did have two teacher only days planned for the 2nd and 3rd June, these will no longer be happening. The purpose was to provide our teachers with professional development and unfortunately due to Covid-19 this can no longer take place. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule the professional development towards the end of the year. Therefore the 2nd and 3rd of June will be normal school days.
Winter Uniform
We have received quite a few queries about our winter uniform. Please see the details below:
Jackets - Navy/Blue/Black.
Track pants - Navy/Blue - the Canterbury brand is preferred.
Tights - Navy/Blue/Black - to be worn under a school skort (not instead of).

Room 1
We have been learning how to keep ourselves and others healthy while we are at school. We made some posters to put up around the school to remind each other what we can do to help keep each other safe.
This is a poster by Blake Annabell.
Room 2
Hi future James,
I would like to ask a few questions. Firstly does everyone still remember about COVID -19 in 2070? Next, does the James tradition still go on and am I a doctor or do I play in a pro football team? Does Matapu still exist or has it shut down? Also do I still keep in contact with my friends, Liam, Koby, Foma’i and Colt or did I make new friends? Did I ever get a wife and if I did how many children did I have? Do my parents still live in Stratford on the farm or have they moved? Do I live in a different country or do I still live in New Zealand? Did technology change or are we back in the old days with no phones and nothing?
I hope you are still alive 60 year old me.
From 10 year old James.

With your basket and my basket the people will live
Again referring to co-operation and the combination of resources to get ahead. This proverb can be very useful and is often said.
