Quick Note from the Principal
In the past month, you may have become aware of a current series playing on Netflix entitled “13 Reasons Why”, based on the 2007 young adult book by Jay Asher of the same name. Your child may have watched the series, or has heard about it from friends. The show’s quick rise in popularity has garnered a significant amount of attention on social media, and has been discussed on both local and national news.
This series portrays a fictional teenage girl who leaves behind 13 audio recordings explaining the reasons why she chose to commit suicide. This series does contain graphic and sensitive content that may increase risk for some youth, particularly those who are potentially vulnerable. We believe it is important to bring your attention to the series and the impact it may have on your child.
Please know that you can always reach out to your child’s School Counselor or School Community Resource Specialist if you have questions or need to discuss concerns about your child.
Sincerely,
Chris McCann, Principal
