Welcome Parents!

Here's What's Happening in Preschool:

Let the fun begin!

Dear Parents,

My name is Alyse Callihan and I will be your child's teacher for the school year. I have a bachelor's degree in education which I received at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, I also received teacher certification at St. Francis University. This is my first year as a teacher, however, I have a lot of experience working with children.

I am so excited to have you and your child as a part of my first year at Head Start and as a teacher! I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child and I know we will have a fun and educational school year. I have so many great things planned and a lot of ideas to share with your children. I know how much you care about your child's education, and I will do everything I can to ensure a successful year of preschool! I would like to have parent-teacher conferences at your latest convenience so I can get to know you, your child, and family.

I look forward to working with you this year,

Alyse Callihan

...Oh The Things We Will Learn!...

What your child will be learning:

This year we will cover a variety of topics and information, which follow the Pennsylvania state learning standards. We will work on self-help skills, small and large motor skills, letter and number recognition, communication, and several other cognitive and social skills. The Preschool classroom is divided into several centers: Dramatic Play, Construction, Art and Writing, Sensory, Math and Science, Table Toys, and a quiet Reading area. During center time the children may choose the area in which they want to play. They may switch areas at any time. The children learn to keep toys in their areas, pick up after themselves, share and respect each other, and work together. We also concentrate on one letter of the alphabet every week. The letter of the week is displayed in the group area. We will work on recognizing this letter, practice sounding it out, we'll try writing it, and naming things that begin with the letter.

*Each week I will send home as well as post weekly newsletters with details on the current lessons.
