Cougar Community Connection
A Newsletter From Your Principal, Shannon McPherson
A Letter From Shannon 4/28/23
What a fun night we had last night welcoming our newest members of the CRUN Family at Kindergarten Orientation. This time of year is bittersweet, knowing that we are sending our 6th graders on to their new journey of middle school after so many years of watching them learn and grow into the fine young people they've become, ready to take on the middle school world. We are sad to see them go, but excited to see them spread their wings and fly into the next chapter of their lives. At the same time, it warms our hearts to see our new kindies begin their journey here at Cougar Run. The graduating class of 2036 joined us last night and got a chance to dabble in what a day in the life of a kindergartener will be like. We had a balance of veteran families and some brand new ones. We began the connection process of welcoming these new folks into our Cougar Run Family. We also began our end of the year growth data collection, launching our end of the year diagnostics in reading this week. We are proud that our students are engaging in and taking their assessments seriously knowing that measuring the growth and progress each student has made is an important part of their academic journey. The teachers have done a great job of conferring with kids to help them understand and take responsibility for their data. Goal setting with typical and stretch growth became a big part of that conversation and our kids got excited about the idea of competing with themselves to reach their goals. These data reports will be in Friday Folders for you to see on May 19th. Last, but not least, we ended our week celebrating the incredibly generous fundraising that our community did to help our school. We hit each milestone dollar amount earning a crazy sock, pajama, movie and popcorn day. The kids worked hard on their diagnostics so it was the perfect time for a celebration, too.
