Civano Community School
8 January 2021
Happy New Year, Civano Families!
As we begin our year in remote learning, it is SO GOOD to see you all joining classes and re-establishing routines and school life. Thank you for joining us on Community Time each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Please reach out to your child's teacher or the school office if you need support.
Our office is only open on Monday mornings (8am-12pm) and Wednesday (8am - 3pm) during remote instruction. If these hours won't work, please let us know and we'll schedule a time to meet you between 8am and 3pm on another day.
I have added a survey below to gauge who is planning to return to hybrid learning or remain Brick to Click on Jan. 25. I have also added dates for changing your decision throughout the 2nd semester. Please know these are best estimates as we continue to navigate school life and living in a pandemic. All of us at Civano truly appreciate your efforts to follow health and safety practices that help keep us healthy.
Finally, please help me welcome Jessica Carter to our team! Ms. Jessica will be teaching art to our K-5 students remotely throughout the rest of the semester. I sent an email earlier this week with her bio and have also included it below. Welcome, Jessica!
Please take good care of yourselves and each other.
Happy New Year,
Lydia

Lower School Art
Hello Civano Families,
I am so excited and grateful to be joining your wonderful school community! I am looking forward to returning to the Vail School District as your art teacher this new year.
I first joined the Vail School District as the art teacher at Old Vail Middle School in 2001 after completing my Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona. I spent 10 years at OVMS teaching art, drama and science electives. I was also the Athletic Director for 6 years as well as the coach for the girls basketball team. During that time I received my Masters in Teaching and Teacher Education. I left OVMS in 2011 to start my own family and be a stay at home mom. But, even during that time I never stopped teaching art! I have been a volunteer art teacher at my children’s elementary school for the last 5 years and have even continued teaching art remotely as a volunteer for my children’s classes during these unprecedented times.
I look forward to meeting with the students each week via the online platform to learn about and create art. I have made all the students mini sketchbooks to be used for our time together: you can pick these up from school on Wednesdays from 8:00am - 3:00pm.
I would like the students to put together an art kit for remote learning if possible so they will not have to search for supplies as we will only be together for about 45 minutes. A large Ziploc bag or small storage container/basket will work great to keep everything together. Students will need a pencil, black marker (preferably permanent), crayons, a set of colored markers and some plain white drawing paper. A ruler, scissors and glue are good to have handy as well. If you don’t have these items please let me know so we can assist you in getting the necessary supplies.
I am so excited to bring my love for the art world to the Civano school and to be able to instill creativity in your children through the creation of art. I look forward to meeting you all in person soon.
Sincerely,
Jessica Carter
