The bobcat, also known as the lynx rufus, is endangered in North Carolina. Bobcats are usually found in the wooded areas of the coastal plains and the mountains, however they are found throughout every region in NC too. They are also the only wild cat found in North Carolina.

Sadly, the bobcat is endangered in North Carolina. They are hunted for their pelts, and are protected by state wildlife departments. With the help of these and monitored hunting/pelt export the bobcat population is steadily growing.
