A Message From the Principal
Happy May Leopard Families!
May is a busy month, filled with end of year testing and celebration! As we wind down the 2021 - 2022 school year, it is time to FINISH STRONG! Our students have made SO much progress this year in all areas, academically and behaviorally! It always amazes me to look at each and every child and the examine the growth they have made from August to May!
Students who didn't know how to reading are READING!
Students who struggled in math have become amazing problem solvers!
Students who were shy and leery have blossomed into leaders!
From music to art to athletics to academics - our students are finding their way and paving their path for greatness!
We have truly proven this year that we truly are Stronger Together! Thank you so much for all you have done to support our students, both at home and at school! Together with our amazing staff, you have made a difference! I look forward to continuing to grow our partnership in the years ahead!
I am so grateful to be a part of the La Porte Elementary community - where we focus on supporting one and other through the good and the bad - building relationships centered around respect, trust and high expectations! Thank you for allowing me to be apart of your child's life!
Have a safe and relaxing summer break> Enjoy your time with friends and family! I look forward to welcoming you back next year, refreshed and ready for another exciting year!
Let's finish strong and show the world that we are #StrongerTogether!

Testing Day Tips
- Tip #1: Get a good night’s rest. Ensure your child goes to bed at a reasonable hour.
- Tip #2: Eat a healthy breakfast. Provide a healthy breakfast with protein. You’ll want to minimize the sugar and carbs intake to help keep their energy level stable for a longer period of time.
- Tip #3: Arrive to school on time. If possible, maybe even arrive early. This is one day you don’t want to be stressed out by being late.
- Tip #4: Be an encourager. Stay calm the morning of testing day. Support and praise your child to help lessen any anxiety they may be feeling. A great way to send out positive vibes is by writing a note to your child and giving them a few words of encouragement.
- Tip #5: Celebrate. It’s been a long week for your child, let them know you appreciate their efforts during STAAR testing with a special treat.
EOY Parent Meetings
We will be scheduling End of the Year meetings with some parents and their child's teachers. Below are the criteria for the EOY Parent Meetings (if applicable):

- Accelerated Learning Committee Meeting: Students who are unsuccessful on STAAR.
- Grade Placement Committee Meeting: Students who do not meet grade level expectations.
Volunteers Needed

- Fun in the Sun Day: PTO and Coach Guidry are organizing our volunteers, please be on the lookout for more information.
- Class Parties: Grade levels will communicate with parents about their specific needs. Please be on the lookout for more information.
- Remember, in order to volunteer you must complete the Volunteer Application. Please click on the link below to access the application.

- Only students who meet the criteria listed on the form are eligible for Summer School.
- PK - 2nd Grade: Summer School invitations will be sent home with your child in the next few weeks. Please complete the required forms ASAP so that they will be ready to begin on June 1st.
- 3rd - 5th Grade: Summer School will be strongly recommended for all students who are unsuccessful on STAAR. STAAR results will not be in until the last week of school, but as soon as we have the information, we will be reaching out to you regarding Summer School if needed.

Counselor's Corner
Nurse's Nook
If your student has any medications in the Nurses office, please pick them up May 26th or 27th. These include all prescription medications, over the counter medications, inhalers, eye drops, cough drops, emergency epi and seizure meds. After May 27, I will have to dispose of any unclaimed medication. A note will go home this month to notify you of what is in the clinic that belongs to your child.
PRE-K students going into Kinder: You should have received a note last month of any immunizations needed to start Kindergarten. You have until August 16th to submit proof of completed immunizations or exemptions. Please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
Personal Note
Thank you to all Parents and Students for making my first year as a School Nurse one I will never forget. To those students not returning to LPE next year, know that you will always have a special place in my heart and you know where you can find me if you ever need anything at all! To all my returning babies – have a wonderful, safe summer. I already miss you and can’t wait to see you next school year!
