Democracy
Government by the people
Syracuse/ an ancient Greek democracy
The city of Syracuse is on the east cost of Sicily. Syracuse was originally a Greek colony with a democratic government. But the ruler Heiron changed the colony from a democracy to a dictatorship. When Heiron died, everyone wanted democracy back so they changed their government back to a democratic government. The democracy was governed by a council and a popular assembly. They also had an executive branch of the government consisting of generals who where elected. Once Syracuse was again a democracy their government was quite strong.
Italy Modern democracy
The people who are called to office to be an administrators are not the owners of Italy, just people who are helping to govern Italy. Their president is elected with a voting system just like ours. The president is also the commander-in-chief of armed forces. Italy has an executive branch and a legislative branch.
