Keepin' in the Know!
PLC's this week will once again focus on data!!! Grades 3-6 will focus on Benchmark 2 and breaking down the data to drive corrective instruction when we return. I LOVE that I am already hearing you engage in conversation about what you are seeing in the data and how you are thinking about moving forward. K-2, we will look at DIBELS data. Please plan on using Monday and Tuesday to do a TRC burst for progress monitoring to meet the 11/30/15 deadline.
Make sure I CAN statements are posted in your classroom and aligned with the content being taught. In reviewing lesson plans, I am seeing the I CAN statements, but don't always see them in the room or being referred to in the lesson. As part of the I DO of gradual release, we set the purpose of the lesson through the I CAN statement. This is something the student should be able to answer at the completion of the lesson.
Speaking of lesson plans....please make sure you are connecting your instructional procedures with the components of the gradual release model. How are you modeling your I DO and allowing students to connect to the instruction through the WE DO? How do you know they are getting it??
We are making changes to the way we will handle discipline issues. Beginning on our return from Thanksgiving break, Mr. Taylor will be used in a more traditional In-School Suspension role, meaning he will not be leaving his room to respond to student misbehaviors. As shown by the attached behavior violations chart, only the administrator or designee should be removing students from the classroom. Students SHOULD NOT be sent out of the room.....there is entirely too much roaming on the upstairs hall and it is impacting other classes. Please call 300 or 303 only and someone will respond to make the determination of student removal. If there is no answer, please send a responsible student to the main office.
