December 2019- Enon Elementary School
Principal's Message
Dear Enon Families,
Thank you for your recent family support of our Veterans Day Ceremony, the Grandparents and Special Friends Luncheons and our Parent/Teacher Conferences. We truly appreciate your partnership! Thank you for your continued support for making sure your child is at school each day, has completed homework and takes time to read each night at home.
This week we recognize Inclusive Schools Week on December 2-6 to show our support for all students and to increase our awareness of different disabilities and challenges that some of our students may face. There is additional information about this week below from Katie Williams, our Coordinator for Special Education.
There is also information about our Hour of Code, MAP Testing for Grades 2-5 and our Winter Spirit Week right before our break. We will be sending a MAP growth report out to all of our students. Holiday Party times are listed below and we will send out a sign up genius link soon to send in items for each class party.
As a reminder, school is out from December 23-Jan 3 and resumes on Monday, January 6th. May you and your family have a wonderful holiday season filled with love, laughter and special moments together.
In Service,
Dr. Huffman
Inclusive Schools Week
Join us in celebrating Inclusive Schools Week (ISW) December 2-6, 2019. We are using this week as a platform to share inclusive educational opportunities, promote awareness and practice to ensure that all children belong and are valued as contributing members of the school community.
Some of the themes that we will be discussing with our students this week include:
No two people are the same -- some differences are just more noticeable.
A disability is only one characteristic of a person. People have many facets: likes and dislikes, strengths and challenges.
Children with disabilities are like all children in that they want friends, respect and to be included.
Children can be born disabled or become disabled from an accident or illness. You can't "catch" a disability from someone else.
Just because someone has a physical disability (when a part or parts of the body do not work well) does not mean they necessarily have a cognitive (or thinking) disability.
Each day we will be sharing information about different disabilities to promote understanding and inclusivity. We invite your students to wear the color that represents each disability featured to show support and raise awareness.
Monday - Burgundy / Maroon - Disability Awareness
Tuesday - Blue for Autism
Wednesday - Orange for ADHD
Thursday - Purple for Epilepsy
Friday - Enon Spirit Day -"We ALL belong!"
Thank you for your support of inclusive schools week.
