Ms. Liz's Biweekly Class Updates

For the week of 5/6

MS. LIZ (AND I'M SURE MS. NATALIE), LOVED ALL THE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS SHE RECEIVED TODAY. THANK YOU TO ALL!!!

* UPDATES *

REMINDER: POSTER PHOTOS & QUOTES DUE TOMORROW MORNING (TUES. 5/7)

POSTER UPDATE: Please be sure to email your child's photo to Esther ASAP, as well as turn in your child's quote by tomorrow morning. Esther may have had time today to go around and get a few quotes from a few children but just to be certain, ask your child for a quote. Questions you can ask them and let them write it, could be: "What do you appreciate the most about Ms. Liz/Ms. Natalie?" or "What was your favorite moment spent with.." etc.

AGAIN, PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CHILD'S PICTURE AND SCAN THEIR HAND-WRITTEN QUOTE TO: YOONPARK73@HOTMAIL.COM, BY TUESDAY MORNING, THE LATEST!

*IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SCANNING CAPABILITIES PLEASE PLACE YOUR CHILD'S QUOTE, WITH THEIR NAME, IN AN ENVELOPE AND HAND IT TO DOUG, JOSSIE OR ESTHER ASAP.

A poster will be presented to each teacher, from their students, at the Teacher's Luncheon this Wednesday.
We do not want our teachers to be the only ones who do not receive a poster.

Again, please prepare for a busy week, with more updates and reminders to follow. Thanks again.

MS. LIZ'S WISHLIST - GIFT ITEM DUE FRIDAY 5/10

Hi Everyone,
Below is Ms. Liz's wishlist. The idea is that we are all going to pick something from her list and buy it for her as a gift and present it to her this Friday.

Ms. Liz wrote me back, just today, and got all excited about wanting this:
"Oooooh what I would REALLY love is if some parents could come in this week to help clean the room! After school has been using the room all month and it feels really dirty. Since they've moved locations, I would love to get the class feeling clean again!", I felt bad reading this, knowing they've all been sitting in a dirty class so I'm volunteering to help make her class squeaky clean. Doug and I are available Wednesday. Anyone else down to get, down-and-dirty? Please email me.

Now, for her real wish-list, here's what she shared:

"If I had to pick something in the "gold" category, it would probably be a document camera to be able to show artifacts or step-by-step work with the whole class. They're pretty pricey though. Our curriculum just came out with this set of books too, which looked pretty awesome: http://www.heinemann.com/products/E02108.aspx.

For the everyday items, markers, colored pencils, more 1 inch binders, watercolor sets, board games, large-sized legos or blocks for golden time...
"

So there it is. She's not really asking for much. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT "DOCUMENT CAMERAS" AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, CAN BUY IT AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE?? I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THESE THINGS COST BUT IF THEY ARE NOT TOO EXPENSIVE, PERHAPS WE CAN PUT OUR MONIES TOGETHER AND GET HER ONE. WOULDN'T IT BE NICE TO GET HER THE "GOLD"? :). Please let me know your thoughts.

REMINDER: TURN IN YOUR (2) PERMISSION SLIPS for Class trip THIS FRIDAY 5/10

This Friday, the first graders are going on a field trip to the Ballona Wetlands in Culver City! WE ARE LEAVING SCHOOL BY 8:30 AM. We are scheduled to arrive there at 10 am for outdoor lessons and activities about the wetlands habitat.

There are two waivers to be signed and returned, that you should have found in your child's homework folder this week. One from the Wetlands and a CWC permission slip. Please sign and return both, as soon as possible!

This Trimester: Native American culture

This trimester, we are combining our first TfU, "My Place in My Community," and our second unit, "Communities in the Natural World," in order to take a look at how cultural communities are formed within an environment. 1st grade will be studying Native American cultures and we have two upcoming field trips to the Ballona Wetlands and the Gene Autry Museum.

Class Pet Lizard Lizzy

Our class lizard Lizzy needs a home for the summer! There is already a full set-up and she is a super chill, low-maintenance animal.

Ms. Liz's Golden Goal

We are also continuing to work on developing our emotional vocabulary and use our words to express how we feel.
