Reading
Our focus this week is on reading longer and stronger. Students will look at each other's IRLA logs, as well as their own and make observations. We'll note what kinds of books someone is reading, how long it takes them to finish chapter books and how many pages they usually read in one sitting. Students will use this information to make goals about their reading.
Over the weekend, students are expected to read 6 steps (30 minutes/2 steps each day). Students should be writing down their own steps, since this is something they do at school. We're focusing on completing our logs with dates, pages and levels. The dates and pages allow me to see how long it takes students to read a chapter book, which is a skill to keep track of starting at a 2R.

Math
We'll use our addition strategies to solve two-digit addition story problems. Students will be able to share their strategies used to solve the problems with their classmates during our forum. We're also adding 2 new workstations to our Math rotations!
Today your child came home with their login for Prodigy. This is a Math game that is differentiated to your child's math skills and needs. Your child does not need to practice this at home, but they can if they want to. It can be accessed at https://play.prodigygame.com/.
We've got homework Tuesday-Thursday next week. Each homework will be a couple of questions and have the exact same type of questions on the opposite (classwork) side. The classwork side is done whole group and students are encouraged to use it as a reference when working on their homework.

Executive Functioning: Next week we will talk about ways we remember important information, oncluding using calendars and planner strategies.
This week we focused on keeping our materials organized such as pencil boxes, Take Home Folders and bins. Ms. Kunce read It was Just Right Here! and we learned about how to hit a home run with being organized in 3 easy steps:
1. Realize everything has a home.
2. Place things in their home immediately when you are done with them.
3. Ask for help if nothing works.
4. Enjoy your success!
Use these steps as a reminder to keep your child organized at home.
