What is the King Ranch?
The King Ranch was established by Richard King as a 15,500 acre piece of land, near the Gulf of Mexico in 1853. Over the last 160 years the King Ranch has grown into a 825,000 acre ranch in South Texas. The King Ranch has transformed into a major agribusiness in the areas of cattle ranching, farming, feedlot operations, marketing, luxury retail goods, and recreational hunting.
Why is the ranch famous?
The King Ranch is one of the largest ranches in the world. This Ranch was famous for leading some of the first cattle drives in Texas. Also, because they developed the two breeds of cattle known as Santa Gertrudis and Santa Cruz. The Ranch also produced some of the best quarter horses (racing horses), and produced world champion thoroughbreds.
