The Husky Herald

Week of October 18th

Message from Mr. Carabatsos

Dear Sullivan Families,

Progress reports will be issued this week (October 18th) for all students. Please review these academic updates carefully and reach out to your child's teachers with any comments or concerns. Many students are struggling to meet the expectations of in person learning and we ask parents, as partners in this learning, to work with us in support of your child.

As we approach the final week of our Fall cross country season, I would like to thank coaches Kevin Sheehan and Don Goodick for their guidance and support throughout the season. The final cross country meet is Thursday, October 21st at 4:30 at Shedd Park. The top ten girls and boys runners from each school will be participating in the final meet. I would like to congratulate the entire team for their dedication each week and their outstanding representation of the Sullivan School. We invite all cross country members and families to an end of the season celebration on Wednesday, October 20th at 3:45 in our cafeteria. In addition, we are encouraging all students and staff to wear white on Thursday, October 21st in support of our outstanding runners.

As a staff, we have decided to postpone our Open House and Parent Conferences until November 18th as well as our grade level celebrations to allow for additional time to avoid large crowds with the ongoing COVID concerns. With respect to these concerns, the mask mandate in school is still in effect. All students and adults within the school buildings must continue to wear a protective mask ( above their mouth and nose) to ensure the safety of others and mitigate the spread of this still present virus. As parents, please continue to encourage your children to wear their masks throughout the school day.

Finally, our 21st Century Extended School Program begins on Monday, October 18th; running Monday-Thursday from 2:15-4:45. Students MUST attend a minimum of 2 days per week and attend for the ENTIRE duration of the program (2:15-4:45). Unfortunately, transportation is NOT available at this time. Students can either walk or must be picked up promptly at 4:45. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. DaSilva. Please see the registration form linked below.

As always, please reach out with any comments or concerns. We thank you for entrusting us with your children.

Please join us on Social Media: Facebook (@lpsdsullivan); Twitter @SullivanLPS. See links below.

Health & Safety Updates

After a year and a half of interrupted and modified schooling due to COVID, we are excited to welcome all students and staff back to the Sullivan School. We are still contending with the Delta variant and therefore everyone in public buildings must wear a face mask to minimize the potential spread. In addition to our regular focus on hygiene and social distancing, families will have the opportunity to consent to weekly COVID testing to assist in our preventive efforts. For now, these are the only restrictions and modifications we will face in light of the threat of this new variant. We will ensure we provide regular updates as we continue to fight this virus. Please find the consent for testing below. Full details can also be found in the LPS COVID Dashboard linked below.
