Dear Parents,

What a great first week! Thank you for your loving support and patience as we work hard to make sure students have routines and expectations down. We are working with transportation to make sure our busses arrive and dismiss on time. Please remember that we start arrival at 7:50am. It is always best to have your student arrive around that time.

2022-2023 Volunteer Opportunities

The opportunities below are important roles we need to fill. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact the principal, Kim Dameron, at kimberly.dameron@cfisd.net. Please include your name, your child’s name and grade level, and the best number to reach you.

  • Garden Helpers-If you love working in the garden, this might be for you! We always need volunteers to help with watering and weeding.

  • School District Health Advisory Council-This is a district committee and we need one representative for our campus. The representative must be the parent or guardian of a student at Walker. There are 4 meetings during the school year (10 am to 12 pm) on September 13, 2022; December 13, 2022; February 7, 2023; and, April 11, 2023.

  • Superintendent’s Parent Leadership Committee: This is a district committee. Members meet with our superintendent, Dr. Henry two times during the year. There is a morning and evening meeting to accommodate the busy schedules that parents have. We will have one representative from our campus. Meeting dates are not yet known.

  • Horizons Parent Advisory Committee: This is a district committee. The campus representative must be the parent or guardian of a Walker student who has qualified for our Gifted and Talented program. Meeting dates and times are unknown at this time.

  • Campus Performance Objectives Council (CPOC): This is a campus committee made up of the principal, administrators, teachers, and other staff, along with a district representative, parents, business partners, and members of the community. We would like to have at least two parents on the committee. The purpose of the committee is to review the progress of our campus goals. We will meet at Walker on September 26, November 8, February 17, and May 9. All meetings will take place from 7:10 am to 7:45 am at Walker.

Lunch Visitors

Lunch visits for kindergarten - 5th grade will begin on September 26th. One lunch visitor per student would be appreciated. If you want someone other than a parent/guardian to visit for lunch, we must have the proper notification prior to their visit. We do not have lunch visitors at the beginning of the year so that students can learn routines and procedures. We are not able to accept lunch drop-offs of fast food, etc. Parents may drop off forgotten lunch kits if necessary.

Label all items

Please label all items that come to school with your child's name. This makes it easier for your items to be returned instead of the Lost and Found.

Free Breakfast and Lunch

Our students here at Walker have free breakfast and lunch because our campus is part of the Community Eligibility Provision process. Even though all students are eating for free, the district still has to determine if they would have qualified for free/reduced benefits. Please take time to fill out the Income Survey that your child's teacher gave to you at Meet The Teacher so that our campus can benefit in special funding. Many of you have already taken care of this online. We appreciate your support!
